I am replacing the National brand phone outlets in the walls with Panasonic ones, the National outlets have four terminals , two are marked with a R for the red wire and two are marked with a G for green. The Panasonic terminals are numbered 2, 3, 4 and 5. Can anyone tell me which numbers the red and green wires go to please? I have been in to the TOT office only to wait 15 minutes and still not get served and also I have asked at the electrical outlet where I bought them and they haven't a clue, they did suggest I just try any combination. There are 16 different combinations with 4 terminals and each time I try just one combination means disconnecting the terminals on the outside of the house so I don't get a shock and then connecting to a pair of terminals in the wall socket and then try to make a phone call to see if it is connected correctly. I did this 8 times before I thought I would ask one of those smart guys on TV to assist. [What's the name of that clever electrician who often answers these questions,is it Crossy I think.] Thanks for any help.

My guess is terminals 3 & 4, but it is easy to check.

Put the phone to your ear and touch the wires on the terminals.

If I am right you will hear the dial tone.

Yup it's 3 and 4, doesn't matter which way round they go.

If you're holding the wires when someone calls your eyes will light up mind, about 90V AC ringing voltage.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Thanks for that but I only have a wireless Panasonic phone and it never did have a dial tone.

Its only 48v DC will not kill you only give you a tingle unless you got a pacemaker then do not do it. I thing it also 3 and 4.

But have a look at http://en.wikipedia..../Telephone_plug it either help or just totally confuse you.

Thanks Barry, I realise it is low voltage but even 48 volts can make you jump. I did go into Google and came up with two different sets of numbers, 3 and 4 and on a different site 5 and two.

Three of you in a row say 3 and 4, good enough for me and tomorrow I will make the connection, thanks Crossy and everyone.
