khman Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Hi, I will be back in the island in january for at least a year. I will be in a hotel that has bad wifi, not very reliable. I would like to know what offers are available, in 3G or 3G+. If possible : - no quota, unlimited - an USB key would be great, but a router would be best, as it would broadcast 3G/3G+ through wifi, so all my devices, laptops, iphone would get wifi. If you can help, please tell me. Thanks
CaptainWindsock Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I'm interested in the reply to this topic. Somebody must know?
Tropicalevo Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) I am not very technical, but the last that I heard was that 3G was not available yet on the island. I haven't been for an update recently as there is a lot of conflicting info. (CAT say November 2011, UBC/True say not this year) 3G is being rolled out around Thailand via True/CAT (I think), but I read that there are delays now due to the floods in Bangkok. Of course I may be talking a load of hen, but this is my understanding. I guess that all of this might be why there are no answers to your question. CaptianWindsock - for sure someone knows, but they are not telling us (with any degree of confidence). Just found this thread - does it help? Edited December 5, 2011 by Tropicalevo
ilCapitano79 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Ive wrote it before in another thread here, I'll say it again then. There is 3G on the island, I have it as back up and it working pretty good except for a disconnect that last for a second sometimes. Im using True 3G H wich I think is 3G+. Download and upload speed vary from time to time and its anything from 1Mbit down and 0.2 Mbit up to 5.60 Mbit down and 4 Mbit up. I havent been testing it that often thou, max 10 times and the one I did just now writing this response had speeds of 5.40 Mbit down and 1.6 Mbit up. Regarding devices I dont know as I use mine in my iPhone as backup only, but I think they had router at the true store oppsite post office in Chaweng but dont quote me on this one.

In addition to ilCapitano79 comments i have the same and have tethered the iPhone to my laptop and it has worked really well. The only issue you will have is the "unlimited" deal. I have the 900 Baht per month unlimited deal and last month paid 1250 Baht. unlimited means 5GB and to be honest i've no idea how i used 5 gb. I only check FB and Twitter and the odd website occasionally.
yorkie100 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 For what it's worth I have just found this map suggesting current 3G coverage of Samui. NO guarantees though from me.
