Police Checkpoint In Front Of Visa-Run Meetup Locations

Recommended Posts

Without being too specific on the visa run company... a friend of mine who did a visa run early this morning (VERY early) said that the police were intercepting taxis carrying just in front of the meet-up location and searching the belongings of foreigners. This is the first time I've heard of this, is it something that has happened before that anyone is aware of?

Custom officers just doing their job by checking if you are not exceeding the tolerated amount of imported duty-free products.

I think you misunderstand.. they weren't checking the visa run bus. I know that is normal. They were set up in front of the meetup point (in Bangkok), stopping people before they even arrived to start the visa run. My friend was stopped, as was another farang that came in a taxi from the same direction. I suspect they were looking for overstays to make a some tea money. On the other hand, maybe they were just doing their job and had received a tip that some red-flagged name was going to show up for a visa run.

That is one of the reasons why I make borderruns or visaruns by myself and

because, I want my life in my hands and so I like and want to hold the steering wheel or the handlebar.rolleyes.gif

I do same for all act's in Thailand. It happen 6 month with a friend on visa run to Ranong by bus. 20 km in front of Ranong police stop and check bus. Success 7 people had overstay. It made a nice pocket money and they had to pay at the immigration again :whistling:

So what's wrong, those 7 people broke the immigration law.Lucky theu weren't deported after enjoying a few nights of free hotel.

It's not expensive to keep your visa updated,if you can't afford it than this isn't the right place for you.

OK, I misunderstood... I thought that you were talking about the meeting point after the casino.

Otherwise, on my last September trip with that -5:00am departure- company, I've noticed that their staff refused several passenger because they had a too long overstay and might be controlled on the way to the border.
