Picture this, leaving suvarnhabum going to uk via Schipol. Bought 1 bottle of grey goose vodka, 1 packet of fags (200) and 4 packs of chox. Chox and vodka put in a security sealed bag at suvarnhabum shop, u know the ones, the security bags that u can't reopen.

Got off Bkk to AMS flight, no problems. Stay in departures as I am a "In transit" passenger, hence no need for passport.control.

Go to jump next flight to uk, go through ticket check and baggage check. Only to have vodka confiscated because Thailand is not a "security approved nation". Therefore the sealed security bag is void and the 100ml hand baggage rule applies.

If this is the case, then does this mean that anyone "in transit" from thailand via one EU country to another has the chance of having alcohol confiscated at security even if it's in a sealed security bag?

I've done this trip in excess of 15 times in the past 5 years, and it's the first I've heard of it.

I believe this is the case. Purchase your duty free on the last leg of your flight just before you fly back to your own country of origin. I wouldn't buy any before I got to Amsterdam on a Thailand - AMS - London flight for this very reason.

correct - For the past 3 years I have used Istanbul as a transit point to travel to Bangkok. Before that I would go direct from Heathrow.

If I am going to purchase any perfume or alcohol duty free items - I'll do it in Istanbul (inward and return)

It has nothing to do with Thailand - you can run into the same problem if you hop around within Europe.

I hope you took it back, proceeded to nearest toilet and emptied it down the drain and maybe took a dew sips in between. They say you can't take it on the plane but you can certainly take it back and do whatever you wish with it whilst youy are still in the terminal.

I bought 3 tins of Lynx at the Boots shop at duty free, travelled to BKK via Charles De Gaulle, and security at Charles De Gaulle took them off me annoyed.gif

There seems to be no scope for common sense in regards to transit passengers, I believe the rule in due to be relaxed in a couple of years.

This is within EU Regulations. You should always ask at check in here at Suvarnabhumi, and KLM will advise you thus. Sorry for your wasted expenditure. The reverse is not true. You can buy in UK and transit through Schipol with your sealed bag of DF, and it's OK. EU Regs!

I flew from Heathrow to Bangkok via Doha, I was purchasing a couple of decent bottles of wine in the Heathrow duty free shop, when the guy asked for my flight details he advised me not to buy them as I would lose them in Doha - I couldn't imagine King Power doing that.
