BOT PREPARES TO INTRODUCE NEW VERSION OF 1,000-BAHT BANK NOTES ON NOVEMBER 25.

The Bank of Thailand is preparing to issue a new version of 1,000-baht banknotes on November 25, to prevent counterfeiting. Senior director of the Bank of Thailand’s Banknote management department, Ms. Duangdao Sombatsiri (ดวงดาว สมบัติสิริ) revealed that the Bank of Thailand will issue the new version of the 1,000 baht banknotes on November 25, to replace the ones currently circulated in the system. It is expected that it will take about a year and a half for the new banknotes to replace all old ones.

Ms. Duangdao said that the new banknotes will have special features that will prevent counterfeiting. She said that the front of the banknote will have silver foil stripe that will reflect light when flipped. She said that the paper used for the banknotes will also have metal fibers inside, adding that inside the fiber will have Arabic number that reads 1,000 baht on both sides.

Ms. Duangdao said that the Central Bank will issue 999,999 commemorative banknotes on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s accession to the throne. She said that the prices for the bank notes have not been set yet.

Lets hope Ms. Duangdao highlights that she is talking about the price for the 999,999 commerative banknotes so that some over zealous Bank Managers/Money Exchanges don't start charging 1000+baht for a new non-commerative 1000baht bank note -TiT.
