Indonesia releases 14-year-old Australian boy held on drug charge

BALI, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- A 14-year-old Australian boy who was previously arrested and convicted for drug possession on the Indonesian resort island of Bali was released on Sunday, local media reported on Monday.

The teenager, who has only been identified by his initials L.M. due to his young age, was arrested on October 4 when he was caught carrying marijuana in the beach area of Legian on the island of Bali. He had been held in a jail and an immigration detention center since.

Late last month, a court found him guilty of illegal drug possession and sentenced him to two months in prison minus time already served in detention. The boy initially faced a maximum sentence of six years in an adult prison.

The chief of Denpasar jail where the boy was recently being held told the Antara news agency on Monday that L.M. had been released on Sunday and will be deported to his home country Australia. The teenager has also been banned from entering Indonesia for the next six months.

Mohammad Irfan, the lawyer who represented L.M., said his client was feeling glad to have been freed from jail and said he would be leaving the country shortly.

Money is equal to the amount of qualitytime you have to leave in return.

Many decent people can only dream of freedom.

Scumbags with money just buy freedom with someone elses qualitytime.

Errrr - he served 2 months in an Indonesian prison for his offence; considering he is only 14 (FOURTEEN) I reckon that is more than enough in the circumstances (I seem to remember he confessed to the offence).

It doesn't mention above that he bought his way out.
