Searat7
Has anyone ever gotten a VAT refund at airport for a cell phone (like I phone) ? If so which company ? It seems that cell phones today cost as much as computers so it would seem that VAT refund eligibility would be the same. I asked someone at a DTAC store and was told NO. jackbox
You have to buy it from a store like Power Buy that has the paperwork for the VAT refund. Only larger stores have the forms. Tesco and Big C stores can do the form for you also. Smaller stores at MBK do not have the forms and not VAT refund eligible. You must get the form from the store at the time of purchase. You take the form and the item you bought to the VAT refund office at the airport BEFORE you pass through customs. They have to see the paperwork, receipt and the item. Then after you pass through customs they make sure you still have the item and are actually taking it out of Thailand and then they will give you the VAT refund. You must be on a tourist visa to do this. People on other visas are not eligible for a VAT refund. Also the item must leave Thailand within 60 days of purchase.
