SammyKohSamui Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Im a little bit far from the mainroad or the next connection point from ToT.. They told me i need about 700 meters of cable to my house , which coast as well about 4000 baht :-( Little bit afraid about my internet speed.. Do i lose speed ?? dosnt matter how far it is !?! Thank you !!
notmyself Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) Mine is just under 1000m. My 8 dl and 1 ul gives me exactly that though I use 3bb which shouldn't matter anyway. [edit] Mine cost 5k and is CAT6 cable. SNR Margin Downstream : around 8 db SNR Margin Upstream : around 18 db Line Attenuation attenuation Downstream : 28 db Line Attenuation attenuation Upstream : 18 db Make sure they don't use 4 core phone cable or you would be lucky to get 6 dl Edited December 12, 2011 by notmyself
SammyKohSamui Posted December 13, 2011 Author Posted December 13, 2011 Thanks ! but how i know which cable they use..i can imagin if i ask them they didnt know what i mean ;-)

Mole Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I agree it's too low. I used to have similar problems and it'd frequently disconnect or the line would stall and my CRC count was huge. I called their support and they sent some people to check my cable. Now this is my router stats: (I've upgraded to their 9Mb/1 after the line fix) Max. Bandwidth Down/Up(kbps) 26828 / 1132 before 8000 / 200-300 Bandwidth Down/Up(kbps) 10816 / 1127 before 7000 / 200-300 SNR Margin Down/Up(dB) 26.6 / 7.2 before under 10 Attenuation Down/Up(dB) 8.0 / 4.8 Power Down/Up(dBm) 0.0 / 9.3 Before my upload speed would usually be around 200 something so seeding torrents was just out of the question. Now my CRC is almost none existent now and it won't disconnect even when it rains which it would before.
notmyself Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Thanks ! but how i know which cable they use..i can imagin if i ask them they didnt know what i mean ;-) Make sure it is written down when you book the install. If the person you are booking with doesn't know what you mean get them to phone someone who does. As I say, I use 3bb and have had pretty much no problem for over 2 years. The staff at the 3bb desk in Tesco Lamai are very good at their job. The guys who done the install also phoned me an hour before they came.
notmyself Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 ^ How do you check these stats? Log into your router

I do indeed get the odd disconnection but only 2-3 times in a 10-12 hour period. I'll leave things as they are but thanks for the info if it starts getting bad.
Mole Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 It was like that for me too before, but now I'd stay connected for days. Right now over 100 hours already... On top of that my upload speed increased and I finally got over 500. That's when I decided it was worth upgrading to their 9Mb/1 deal. It would not have been possible before because my poor signal would only allow uploads at around 200-300. I recommend that you contact them to have a look. It can't really get worse.

I get 8 down and 1 up with 2-3 disconnections lasting maybe 30 seconds a day. I think I will leave things as they stand for the time being.
