MORE POLICE OFFICERS DEPLOYED TO MONITOR TRAFFIC DURING NEW YEAR

The Minister to the Prime Minister's Office stated that preparations have been made to increase the number of officers on duty during New Year, and also to increase taxi stand points to alleviate any traffic problems that may occur during the New Year.

Mr. Nawin Chitchob (เนวิน ชิดชอบ), Minister to the Prime Minister's Office stated after hosting a meeting concerned with traffic congestion in the Bangkok Metropolitan area, that, to accomodate increased traffic during the New Year, the city will increase its manpower of police officers on duty to 15,000 men, and will continue to use this level of manpower until traffic conditions in all areas have returned to normal after the New Year. A bonus of 1000 baht per officer has been set aside to boost morale for police working during the New Year.

The number of available taxi stands in the city will also be increased permanently in many areas of the city. Mr. Nawin added that determining where each taxi stand will be located will follow laws concerned with allowing taxi stands to be located in commercial areas.
