Fly-Tipping

If anyone should be charged <snip> it should be these two loyal subjects <snip> defiling the 'realm'...

Locals stood by watching but, possibly wisely, not intervening. I blow a whistle to get them to look up into the camera, but as a foreigner I'm disinclined to get involved unnecessarily with any Thai authorities. I do wonder what I could do with photos like the above and several others, including a BMA drains contractor, without risking compromising myself. Has anyone tried?

Eight months after the soi was completed alongside an undeveloped, pleasantly green area the edge of the road is now some 30% occupied by rubbish. Eventually, and poignantly, someone has improvised a sign:

หัาม ทิ้ง ขยะ - stop dump(ing) rubbish.

Its just the same in the areas around Nakhon Sawan, not so much in the city but in the once pretty country lanes out of town an absoulute disgrace to me but the Thais seem to accept it as ok and comes every year after the floods.

I have always understood หัาม to mean forbidden or prohibited.

If a proper place were available to 'dump' household rubbish, the problem might be eased a little. But the fact is that there is nowhere to take your rubbish, and of course nobody wants it at home - so they resort to 'fly-tipping'.

The same applies to rubbish bins. How many do you see in Bangkok? And then they keep advertising that dropping litter is a crime with a fine of up to 2000 baht.

Of course - the rats love it - no bins means easy pickings.

It ain't rocket science - provide the correct amenities and the majority of people will use them. (Not speaking for the downright lazy people who wouldn't use a bin even if it were right under their nose).

If anyone knows of a dump, or refuse collection site or plain old 'tip' in Bangkok, please let me know where is it - I have lots of garden rubbish to dispose of.

Failing that - let me know where this soi is, so I can go and dump it there with the rest of the rubbish.
