They are fixing up the dirt part of the road up Soi 5, Maenam to and beyond the View Point ... how far I don't know... but lots graded....

It's a very steep road, (even the part already cemented) so those who find Soi 1 to Lamai a "white knuckled drive".... will have white hair doing this one! I already do :D

If it is sunny this coming week, might try it again, it started to rain today, so we turned back...

It does lead to various roads in the middle of the Island and one can come out south of Nanthon or even Lamai (Not Soi 1 road) ...

Some great views up there and many small holdings (farms)... It's the root the "Jungle Trip" Trucks use.... they sure have been quite busy these last few days....

Drive it with "caution"! :whistling:

Why don't you organise a bit of a run one day Jimmy. Perhaps we can all familiarise ouurselves with other parts of the island.

Not a bad idea Rooo ... but if you follow me we might get lost :D ... but that said sometimes interesting places are down the roads less traveled...

I would never had found that Samui has a Waikiki beach just by staying on the ring road! ;) I bet 99.9 % of people don't know where that is... not sure that I can remember now! :o

That is South & the sign is still there, but the resort no longer exists.

There was definitely some sort of resort at the end of that road when I invstigated down there last October. I drove past the sign and just kept on going. Eventually came to some bungalows and a small shop. No sigh that I could see though.

Wakiki used to be at Laem Sor. Get to the Golden Pagoda then turn left. The actual original resort is all gone, empty land for sale at the moment. You can drive to the end, there is some buildings but nothing to do with it.

there was a time when driving the mountain on small lanes was exciting and beautiful IMO these wide tracks have destroyed a great deal of the natural beauty and wonderment.

wait until the next longer rainperiod, if they build it as usual...........:D

Lots of cement trucks headed up there now... so be cautious.... they cannot stop quickly... especially on the steep road headed past the "nest of houses" before the sharp turn and beyond...

Also the jungle tour trucks head down at break neck speed around 3 pm...

I wish you lot would stop lying about how nice the south of the island is. There's nothing there really...its a desolate place... :whistling:

Hey Smokie ...

No one lying about south end of the island, some parts are very beautiful and quite.... some people like that! thumbsup.gif

Not everyone wants to sit in a bar all day in Chawang or? burp.gifsaai.gifand miss out on the beauty that surrounds us....

Anyways Maenam and Soi 5 is north of the island.... get off your perch and head out once in a while and you'll see!..... blink.pngtongue.png

‘“But there’s nothing here!” cried John in dismay as he gazed across the dappled patchwork of fields towards the shadowy Oak Wood, with the evening sun long and golden across the meadows.’

Someone remembers the Coco Cabana in the West? It was on the next beach from Raja Ferry port, next to the rocks, belonged to an Italian and his Thai wife. That place was a fantastic idyllic Bungalow hideaway. Now there is a small slum like community and next to the beach an industrial area with mountains of pebbles. But if you walk across that you can still find some remains of that place, if you look closer.

Hey, does anyone know how the big road, that they have been paving in Phangan, is going? This road is supposed to connect Ban Tai (you get on the road from the junction where the 7-11 is) to the other side of the island. I was riding it in mid 2010, when most of it hasn't been cemented yet. Are they through there?

Last I heard a couple of weeks ago, they are cementing the road to Thong Nai Pan.... I suspect that is the one you mean?... Some people happy are about that, others not.... they don't want the riff raff therecrazy.gif

There is still talk of a small airport going in that area too.... from my sources! ph34r.png..... I am not telling.....
