Windows 7 And Moving Files

Featured Replies

When I download an emailed zipped Word file I find my only option seems to be to extract it to my main "C" drive.

Then it seems to get stuck there, if I attempt to shift it to one of the libraries, also in the C drive, I get a rap on the knuckles and told that the file cannot be moved because it is already open in Word.

This happens occasionally when I try to move or delete other files, I'm told that the file is open elsewhere.

I suppose I can copy and paste them but what happened to drag and drop?

I hate to ask, but as you haven't specifically said they're not, I need to... Are the files opened elsewhere?

If they are, then this is not a problem with Windows 7 - as no versions of Windows will allow you to move files that are in use by other applications. If they're not, then this is indeed a strange issue I have not encountered before.

Please check that you don't have the preview panel opened in the right side of the file explorer. This might explain your problem (as it actually opens the file you just selected to give you the preview).

As for the possibility to extract only to C... well, we will need more details about how you proceed to download the file then unzip it.
