Hello,

I am looking for Agar agar in Bangkok.

FYI : Agar agar is the Indonesian name for non-marrow based gelatin. It is made of a powerful seaweed called Kanten in Japanese.

It is known by amateurs of molecular and vegan gastronomy and commonly used by the food industry as thickener.

Apparently it is widely used in Asia and this blog even pictures a packet with some Chinese/Thai writings

If you could tell me the Thai name that would help also :)

Available in all Tesco, Big C, Makro supermarkets.

It will be in the section next to salt, mono-sodium-glutamate.

Number of different brands. Most write the Agar Agar name in English on the face of the packs.

Just back from Tesco Seacon Square : Mai mee;

I tried to say that the information came from TV Global Moderator and that they must be mistaken to no avail.

I even had a nice lady who spoke English and explain my request to customer service manager of Tesco Seacon.

They just don't do it.

How strange & unlucky ! ...They must be the only Tesco in Thailand that does not have it ...

I will try Big C tomorrow and keep you posted :)
