Looking For A Fortuner, Or Similar, To Rent For 2 Weeks In March And...

As the title suggests, I'm interested in renting a car in March, I was thinking of a Fortuner as it can carry 7 passengers - there would be 6 of us so a Honda City or even Accord might not be suitable, I have seen prices of around B25,000 for 16 days, I've found a few quotes and they've been the same, or even higher, is that a fair price to pay? Can anybody recommend somewhere cheaper?

I would like to drive the car, along with members of my family coming from the UK, but would I be able to rent a car with a Thailand-issued drivers licence plus the deposit, as I have no credit card?

Reputable international companies usually 'block' the cost of the rental + the insurance excess + a little bit more on your credit card. No credit card, you'd have to leave them a sum of cash.

Local rental firms hang on to your passport and may not have insurance thus no need for a credit card.

Toyota Fortuners are the 7-seater of choice at all Thailand's car rental firms.

Your quote seems a little cheap.

Try Thai Rent a Car. I always found them very good and relatively new cars and well priced. Be wary of backyard companies. You may be lucky, but on the rare occasion I used them the vehicle had issues and usually smelt like an ashtray.

It's also good to have a company which has offices else where. Just in case you have an issue.

I think the money you quote seems about right.

If there are 7 of you there won't be room for much luggage in a Fortuner. 3 or 4 carry on bags only. You could use the roof rack. Just make sure there is a weather cover and straps. The back 2 fold down seats are really only suited for kids.

Have a great trip. I love driving in Thailand. Don't be fazed by the regular police checks. Lunch money fixes most problems. And remember to stay in the left lane on multi lane country roads. Police regularly nab people for not staying over. But where there are no police it's a free for all.

Cc required, approx 55k baht reserved pluss 14 days at 2500++

No CC, backyard rentals, expect them to be not Insured until proved otherwise by policy, meaning you pay for car if wrecked or stolen, and possibly 3rd party
