Chuwit Identifies 22 Gambling Dens And Corrupt Cops In Police Meeting

What would you bet on them catching the 'corrupt cops' and finding any dens in operation? After all this publicity, when it comes to the 'investigation' all those 'dens' will be nothing more than 'coffee bars'. No busts will be made and all those corrupt cops will continue with normal operations, after the heat is off. Didn't you notice where all this is taking place?????? This is Thailand ( TIT ) folks. Don't expect alot, and you won't be dissappointed.

This man is tresding on dangerous ground am thinking maybe will end up in the klong.

Nope. No klongs in his future. He has endless juicy information on major politicians and the police. In the past he has threatened to have his lawyer release it upon his untimely death. I suspect the police are terrified if he dies in a way that might look like a hastened departure..... :-)

National police chief orders urgent probe into Bangkok gambling dens

BANGKOK, 27 January 2012 (NNT) - The national police chief has ordered an urgent investigation into gambling dens in Bangkok, with the results expected before the end of this month.

National Police Chief, Pol. Gen. Prewpan Dhamapong has instructed Inspector-General, Pol. Gen. Sataporn Laothong, to launch an immediate investigation into the emergence of many gambling dens in the capital.

Claims of the mushrooming illegal casinos hit the headlines after Rak Prathetthai (Love Thailand) Party leader and MP, Chuwit Kamolvisit, earlier this week, showed a video clip of gambling activities, alleged to be taking place in various corners of Bangkok, to the Parliament.

The outspoken MP also said that at least 2 senior-ranking police officers, whose initials are "J" and "A", have the knowledge of the gambling dens' operations and act as their consultants.

The deadline for the investigation report to be completed has been set for January 30.

I love this country, only here can a man that owns huge brothels in plain

view in a country where prostitution is illegal, make the news by informing

on underground gambling dens.

The only thing I could compare it to is walking into your local police station

with a smoking crystal meth pipe hanging out of your mouth, and telling them

you have information about a possible pot dealer in the neighborhood.

Chuwit is batman and Magnum PI all rolled into one!!!!! Rock that stash!!!!

I want to know what "deninvolving" means, can't have these Thais inventing new English words. offtopic2.gif

I once spent an hour looking for an "Allie bom" in Big C. Was told everyone would know what it was. Nobody new. Come to find out she wanted a photo album.

What Thailand sorely needs is an independent agency like the FBI, staffed by incorruptible officers that have all-encompassing powers to investigate and if necessary prosecute their peers. Problem is, where would one recruit such agents in a system that is rotten through and through? Perhaps even more importantly, how many of these agents would be able to maintain their integrity when bestowed with so much power?

Thailand already has the equivalent of the FBI. It's called the DSI (Department of Special Investigation), supposedly staffed by police with morals and integrity, Their pay is supposedly 5 - 10 times that of regular police.

Unfortunately, from my observations, they are not powerful enough to deal with organised activities within the criminal community, and regular police, and only end up with enough cases hand-balled their way to make quotas.

I know there is the DSI, and I do *not* consider it Thailand's equivalent to the FBI, exactly *because* they do not hold that all-encompassing power necessary. Whoever established the DSI knew exactly why they didn't furnish them with that sort of power. In the end it is merely a department under the Royal Thai Police Bureau, i.e. *not* an independent agency.

This is bad for Thaksin as it's his relation in charge of the police. Thaksin will be pulling his hair out with frustration.

True, Yingluck, chalerm etc all demanded that the national police chief put in place by the dem government had to go because he didn't stop all drug and gambling activities.

So, when yingluck & chalerm (read thaksin), are you going to sack the current national police chief? Chalerm has after all in the last 24 hours or so made another loud and bold statement that corrupt etc., etc., will not be tolerated.

I've also got our nanny weaned off of sabagetti. Most times she says sabagetti then quickly corrects herself to spahgetti.

Next i'll tackle sapeed, rather than speed (not the drug kind).

Then of course there's the other side of the coin, she had to try to work out my mistakes in Thai pronunciation. She does well.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's shot today... he adds alot more colors to politics though, gonna love him for that

Posted with Thaivisa App http://apps.thaivisa.com

Agreed, think they will find him shot in the back, hanged, or fallen of a hotel balcony, typical suicide.

And he'll accidentally land on a stake-through-the-heart, to ensure that he doesn't return ! vampire.gif

If I remember correctly, in an interview he gave a couple of years ago he basically said that no one would dare touch him as he knows where all the skeletons are in their closets, and he's made plenty of copies and placed them in the hands of those he trust just in case.

I think those who would love to see him have an "accident" are also afraid that if he does, they suddenly become front page news. Fear of exposure can be a powerful tool. So now they are "damned if they do and damned if they don't".

Not the equivalent of the FBI then is it? duh

This will only result in raids of recently vacated gambling dens. It would have been better if they did not - telegraph (yes - this is an archaic term now) the news of an impending raid. Better to catch them red handed. tsk tsk.

Thai police are incapable of enacting a truly effective sting operation.

His fight against corrupt police, whatever his personal motivation, is the reason he's gaining popularity with voters upcountry. In the end, corruption in the police force can only be beaten by making the selection process to enter the police force a lot tougher, constant reviews of performance, monitoring and testing of skills, and better pay.

I think his personal motivation is the untold millions in bribes he had to pay to the BIB when he ran his business. It's payback time.

That's my thinking as well.

I really failto see any value whatsoever in reporting illegal gambling dens when the answer is simply to legalise them. It's called being sensible, responsible and civilised. It also drags Thailand kicking and screaming towards a first world standard, allbeit in a rather unimportant area.

Setting that aside, the police corruption just continues unchecked. Referring to known individuals by intial letters in order to avoid defammation law suits is a further example of just how hopeless it is to expect anything to be done.

The country remains a basket case.

When uneducated, superstitious and immature persons are the overwhelming product of a failed education system what else can you expect.

The fact is that it is impossible for the first world to intervene in order to generate enough qwealth to ever raise the third world out of poverty or towards first world standaards. It cannot and will not happen. Ever. Therefore, standards within Thailand or elsewhere will not improve and neither will the standard of ethics or morality.

Lost cause. More of the same and a [thankfully] widenning gap between what we in the West enjoy and what they East endures.

Just go down to Ch7 for Muay Thai on a sunday afternoon and see all the illegal gambling taking place right in front of your eyes...Then see who are hovering around in the background making sure there's no trouble!!!Amazing Thailand indeed!!
