TOT: 3G to be in service on Feb 24

BANGKOK, 2 February 2012 (NNT) - TOT Public Company Limited says its 3G service will be officially launched in Bangkok on February 24th as scheduled.

The TOT says the company has signed an agreement with Advance Info Service (AIS) on co-site cooperation in providing the third-generation (3G) mobile telecommunication network, and the cooperation has progressed according to plans. Over 3,000 co-site 3G stations have been established, while 2,230 more are under construction. The TOT hopes that the first 3,000 stations will be ready for service by February 24th, and all the 5,230 stations will be put to service by May this year.

The TOT says sharing 3G service stations with the AIS is mutually beneficial and helps reduce the costs of constructing 3G cellular base stations.

Currently, there are over 300,000 3G users, even when the service is unofficially provided. The TOT expects that the number of its 3G customers will increase rapidly.

So what did they officially release 18 months ago if it wasnt 3g ??????????????????????????????

TOT = totally old tossers

You can see the additional coverage here... http://www.i-bkk.com/ilocation/viewer/ just pan out to see all of Thailand.

I think the TOT - AIS roaming agreement started Feb. 1, TOT seems to be re-launching their 3G service on Feb. 24., not sure if they are using the same existing MVNOs, and/or signing up new ones?

I think most consumers (Smartphone, mobile broadband; not fixed-line replacement) want seamless voice, text and data. I am still waiting to hear about TrueMove H <-> CAT roaming experiences, and hope to hear about AIS <-> TOT roaming. What happens when you get handed off? Do you lose a call in progress? Do you lose a data session in progress? Can you send/receive SMSes when you are roaming? What are call completion rates when roaming?

Is anyone using TOT 3G, either directly from TOT or from one of their MVNOs (MoJo, 365, IEC, iKool, iMobile 3GX?

If so, can you share any details re: location, plan, performance?

Thanks.
