Device To Open A Hard Disk ?

I have an old hard disk and am curious to find out if there's still data on it.

Is there a kind of device available in which you can insert a hard disk and connect it to your laptop and just open it ?

If so, what does it cost about ?

An external USB box will do it. http://www.invadeit....sort/price/asc/

If it is that old than need to be sure you get a box with appropriate interface. Older drives IDE, newer drives SATA interface. Make and model of the drive and we can tell you which or look at the connector, if large multi-wire than IDE.

It is "Serial ATA" and the model is "HM160HI".

That is a Samsung SpinPoint 2.5" drive so just need an external USB box for 2.5" Sata drives. Not sure where you are located but should be able to find one at your local computer shop.

You may not even need any "device".

SATA hard drives will plug straight into most computers, admittedly normally inside.

On a laptop it is trickier, and you may not have spare ports, but on a desktop just open the pc and plug it straight in.

If you are not all that technical then take the drive to a computer shop, get them to plug it in and see if it has data.

If it has data and you want to get it back then buy an external hard drive enclosure.

But no need to spend anything until you know that you need to.
