Where To Buy Formica Worktops?

Recommended Posts

I want to make a kitchenette counter. Years ago in the UK I would buy a 3-metre length of chipboard with a formica top and perhaps a wooden front edging or rolled edge - typically sold in DIY stores. Often there would be a choice of different formica patterns

But I have not been able to find similar items in Phuket.

Any ideas where to buy?

Thanks

Quite honestly a granite top is much more practical. Our first apartments 15 years ago we found a cabinet maker who made up our counters with formica tops. Trouble is that the formica gets damaged quite quickly. We replaced with granite after just 6 years. I would not recommend formica tops.

humidity kills it

cheapest fix is a 24mm chips/cement board 120x 240cm, cut it down to 60cm, dont remember the brand name, cover it with 60x60cm porcelain tiles

humidity and termites and white ants, no problem

I agree. I rent my house, but was 'sick and tired' of the (badly damaged) formica kitchen work-surface.

So, I tiled it over with glass mosaic tiles. Fomica is a bad option if you have to live with it.

That plastic hard cote stuff is an interesting deco deal. Go check out stone as there a a number of different ones. I have granet as you can put hot things down etc. Stone tops are not a costly as in the past! I would, howere, leave that one to the pros!

there a good shop in town. from the lights at central, go east towards town. at the Y split stay right and go for about 1km. its on your right, look for a hafele sign on the left and a boat load of ply on your right, that's the place.

if you get to another set of lights, and the pool mart on the right, you have gone about 100m too far.

BTW, 100% agree with the above, formica or any laminte will last about 5 mins.

granite starts at about 1100b/m2 or you could tile it with 60x60s. they have some really nice black tile in homepro on promotion right now for 340b/m2

I've had a kitchen remodelled 6 years ago using formica and it is still going on strong. I bought it near the Expo in town. If you are coming from Robinsons, past the wet market on the left, go straight to the big seahorse circle, go left where the clubs Kor Tor Mor, etc. are, on that road a local shop that sells everything DIY has it.
