I have many but I must say that, go ahead and laugh, I like Nakita'a. If you are a regular join in with the light hearted action of the staff. Tony is about a lot and can be a hoot himself. Palai Green is good also but a bit of a drive from the westside. Problem with the west side joynts is the get away with junk too much as to the tourist trade.

Chime in!

Nikitas is great for a cold beer but the food is terrible.

I preferred the Thai food that came from the restaurant next door, slow but much tastier than the food they put out now.

I agree, brilliant location but the food is a bit hit and miss there both Western and Thai

Some time since we've been to Nikitas, the first time we weren't impressed either by the food or (in particular) the service. We returned a few months afterwards to see if they'd just had a bad day previously, but no, same same. Too many good places with even better locations to contemplate a third return there.

Ironically, this past Sunday, we were in that area and decided to try lunch at the place next door, Rimlay.

First impression was of a quite tired and rundown place, with random mixtures of wood and plastic both for tables and chairs. There are large trees next to the sea wall that provide welcome midday shade. The service was quite friendly, and it didn't take long for the drinks to arrive.

My wife and I both ordered deep fried whole fish, hers with fish sauce and a green mango salad, mine with sweet and sour sauce, with a crab meat fried rice. Usually, whole fish is sold by weight, but these were fixed price and noticeably small when we got them. Of the two, the mango salad was better overall, though both fish lacked the appearance of being really fresh. The crab fried rice was quite bland and on the dry side.

Wouldn't bother there again, as we could have eaten a far superior meal in the Chalong Bay/Rawai area at Kan Eang@Pier for the same price, to say nothing of Kan Eang 2 and some of those at Palai.

Anyway, some photos of place and food:

Has anyone been to Chaiyo restaurant? It is by the Klong Mu Dong canals on the way to Khao Khaard (Ao Yon), good Thai/ seafood, very reasonably priced.

We go there reasonably often, and it's one of our favourite places for a Sunday lunch. Very peaceful setting next to the river, and the fish kept live in pens. Overall good quality (though sometimes it can lapse), and very reasonable prices.

Some photos from a previous visit.......

A long time ago but enjoyed it then. Made the mistake of taking the kids out in a rented canoe but the current became really strong, I guess with the tide, & I had a hard battle to get back to the small pier as my two girls were too small to be of any use.

Any place where you can fish your own and starve if you fail?

Rawai pier..

Went there to fish yesterday with father in law

Sign on gate in Thai NO FISHING

I see Thai's fishing there all the time. As in driving, I'm sure the law is not enforced.

You mean Ao Yon (Ao Po is further north, beyond Phuket Town near Cape Yamu). Unfortunately, a falling out between the proprietor of the Ship Inn and most of his regulars has made it a different venue these days, with the Secret Cove next door gaining custom because of it.

Staying in that same area, the 'Beach Bar' at Khao Khad beach (between Cloud 19 and the Novotel) is tremendous, thanks to the work of 'Pee' and 'Jang' the owners. Try the Pla Tod (deep fried goujons of fresh fish) maybe with a salad on the side. Good value for drinks (Singha 50 baht a small bottle). Good at lunchtimes, and very good at sunset when they put the tables and chairs actually onto the beach. Good mix of locals, tourists, and visiting yachts people. It only opens between the beginning of October and the end of April. They have a small selection of live fish, tiger prawns, and lobster also. Photo of a lobster enjoyed on Boxing Day.
