Outrageous Bank Charge

Featured Replies

Sending 3000 bht for a birthday present for a relative in France,we came to a halt when, after completing the form

we were asked for 1700bht commission.

Staggering, more than 50%.

Has anyone faced such a rip off from a major Thai Bank, branch in Central, name begins with A.

??

Not really out of the ordinary. A fixed charge. About what my UK bank charges me for a TT transfer whether it's $50 or $50,000.

1500 standard fee, here and in most places.

Just paid 480 baht for a 400,000 baht deposit into Krung Thai bank because it was into a branch in another province - not happy!!!

Takes the same amount of effort to send 3000 baht as it does to send 3million baht.

so what is the best option? I know this probably answered in the banking forum but since we are here....

What about those ATMs that accept cash and transfer for 20 THB? Or is that only in Thailand?

Personally, when in Phuket, I use my offspring as my personal banker. He gives me THB in notes and I transfer on the internet from my bank account to his. No fees :)))

Paypal, or find someone in Thailand with a bank account in the relevant country and Internet banking.

Paypal? Paypal for what the best rates?

US$ Bank accounts in Thailand have awful rates too.
