Education Ministry poised to push for high school-equivalent education among Thais

BANGKOK, 7 March 2011 (NNT) - The Education Ministry is poised to improve the quality of non-formal education across Thailand.

Education Minister Suchart Thada-Thamrongvech said on Tuesday that the Ministry is now planning to encourage more people to pursue the state non-formal education program and to complete high school level during the next 8 months.

Mr. Suchart said that the government hopes to raise the level of education among Thais by allowing people, who might have lacked the means to proper classes, to study as much as they can and to even to go to universities later.

The Education Minister stated that the education promotion campaign is now underway and is expected to be more actively executed soon.

In related development, Mr. Suchart said that the government-initiated “One Tambon, One Scholarship” is still looking for more students to take part in, as there remain around 50 districts across Thailand that see no applicants at all.

According to the Education Minister, the latest education policy is hoped to help offer more opportunities for Thai children to pursue higher education either within Thailand and abroad, and to accordingly have more promising career prospects in the future.
