My truck stereo has no auxiliary audio jack so I try to use the FM transmitter built into my Garmin GPS. It works fine after I find an empty FM frequency but 50 kilometers down the road an FM station comes into range and drowns out the Garmin. I have to constantly change frequencies and that makes the FM transmitter nearly useless. I push the radio antenna all the way into the fender and it still overpowers the Garmin.

Is there an online website that sells a wired FM modulator here in Thailand? And yes, I know there are tons of them on eBay. I need the type that accepts a 3.5mm headphone plug from the Garmin GPS.

Try cheap chinese device available everywhere here - even if you fail,it will cost you little(100-200B).

The best are - black colour,with sockets for SD memory card and USB and analog.It may have own internal memory(1,2 or 4G),USB may be only to connect to PC,not for thumb drive,but some models work

with thumb drives.

They are called:"FM converter",not transmitters - they do not have antena,you have to plug it in cigarette socket;signal travels through power wires.Close ext. antena.

Thanks for the reply. My Garmin already has the FM transmitter built in so those crappy Chinese things would do me no good.

This chinese gadget is called in fact:"FM modulator"(not converter - my mistake) and it works through wires of your car(power supply),things which you see on ebay are similar or the same,but you will pay more - watch the photos of them - same,same.

I am using it myself,but in my place we have fm stations 50 miles apart.It is better,that you test it on the spot - shops have car socket to do it;you will avoid duds,or test it in car and come back for replacement.It will give you another music source exept your Garmin - modulator own memory and SD card- it takes only 1G or 2G.It is easy to change frequency.Try it - not much to lose - 5$?Sound quality is very good because memory source is digital,which is directly converted into fm without analog step.Analog input also works.

Music on card must be in simple mp3: CBR 128,may be it works with WMA.Where to buy - local Panthip Plaza,or look around in electronic shops and car shops.

cheers!

Do any of these gadgets allow you to navigate through folders of albums, or do they simply start at song number 1 & continue through to the end?

I jumped out of that box and ordered a pair of Razer mini rechargeable speakers from invadeIT. Supposedly they will play for 12 hours per charge. I wasn't real keen about pulling my radio out of the dash anyways. The speakers cost 2,290 baht but I can use them anywhere. Just plug in the 3.5 mm audio cord and you are ready to go. They will work with my Garmin or my tiny MP3 player.

When I bought mine device - there was only one model on the market - very simple,no file navigation; only one jump forward and one jump back.It comes with remote - simple infrared;

other models may have better navigatoin through remote.Remember,that it is very easy

to change memory SDcards or thumb drive;their capacity is limited to 1G or 2G,in this way you have more convenience in music changing if you keep it on few cards.Cards are big SD.

You can use microSD in adapter.

Today many car stereos have USB input - this is optimal solution.
