Its Raining In Chiang Rai

Just went out to check on the land on the home piece, water was up at least 3 meters, we lost a good chunk of land. I imagine there is bad news to come from the other piece of land too. It was already damaged in a flash flood earlier this year.

It rained all night here but nothing as dramatic as you experienced. Hope your land recovers and things get back to normal quickly for you.

Sorry to hear about your damage. Probably more to come for us folk in the city.

OK what do you guys do to keep amused when it is pouring?

Let me guess, ThaiVisa, internet surfing, watching movies?

.

Of course there is the all-time favorite thing for couples to do on a dark cool rainy day. Then there is also reading, writing or processing photographs. There is always the telephone. Something always needs doing around the house. Sometimes it is nice just to sit back and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells that come with a good downpour. The drama as the storm approaches, and the calm after it has moved on, are a wonderful story of contrast.

Sometimes its important to put the camera down and just watch life go by.

Like your photos and your writing. Personally speaking I think you've got a book or two in you.

Here in SoCal the power goes out just as the first few raindrops hit the ground so we usually have a "nap" as you mention or read with kindle software on a smartphone. One of these days I'm going to have to buy a real kindle.

You are clearly a discerning individual with impeccable taste.clap2.gif There may indeed be a book or two in me but it is a pretty safe bet they will never see the light of day.laugh.pnglaugh.png

Seriously, thanks for your kind words.wai.gifsmile.png

Hmmm, btw didn't it used to show the member's location above or below the avatar? I always found that interesting.

Many members leave that line blank but for those who fill it in, you must go to their profile page to see it. The mouseover function gives some information but not location. Sorry for the slow reply but I missed this post yesterday. We must have been posting at the same time.wink.png

  • 2 weeks later...

After a long dry spell we got a lot of rain last night. With our reservoir nearly dry we needed the rain. I have noticed other reservoirs not far to the East, and higher in the mountains, are full to the brim. I guess the rain doesn’t fall mainly in the plains.wink.png

I have been a long time "lurker" here on the Chiang Rai forum and a very modest contributor. It really disturbs me that there are so many flames, trolls etc here and I notice that a moderator shares my concerns. As someone that is planning imminent residence in the area I had hoped that I could get pertinent info from long time residents via this forum (the inside running so to speak) but it is hard to battle my way through a lot of negative posts and replies to posts. Oh well as ever the optimist I hope things will get better.

I think the principal reason behind the forum is to assist other members, both new and old, with aspects of living in the area that they may not be aware of.

Somewhat unfortunately in a small community like ours many members choose to socialise personally with each other and, human nature being what it is, if they have problems with each other off the forum these problems are inevitably dragged onto it.

In the words of Rodney King:

"People, I just want to say, you know, can we all get along?"

The way to navigate a forum such as this one is to simply post whatever it is you want to know, read the responses, and discard the ones that are nonsense or aggravating. It is easy to take some of these posts personally, but it is just as easy to ignore them.

A lot of posts that are meant to be humorous come out sounding mean, because you don't see the facial expressions and body language of the poster.

I think the Chiang Rai forum is one of the gentler forums on this site, and we would be happy to help you find out what you need.

good advice...seems there are some who are more interested in trying to "prove" how "clever" or "superior" they are than in actually trying to help someone who has a question find an answer...I have been fortunate that most all of my questions have received decent answers with only the occasional attack.....If i knew the answer I wouldn't ask the question and if the question somehow causes someone to just have to be a total jerk then i guess that is the price one pays for not knowing EVERYTHING...

All in all though it seems that most CR forum members are ready and willing to help with most any question anyone has and THAT IS A GOOD THING.

Glad to see you are hanging in there and giving us a chance. Most of us really aren’t all that bad. I am confident we will work through these little distractions and your patience will be rewarded.
