Democrats Consider Seeking Pheu Thai Dissolution

There was no scheduled elections at the time of the coup, the EC had just been appointed a couple of days earlier and they hadn't started working yet.

There were not only elections scheduled, there was a campaign on-going. The royal decree had been signed in July confirming the election date.

There were issues with the EC. But that didn't turn out to be the real problem...

After Thailand's April 2006 elections were declared invalid by the Constitutional Court, it was decided that new elections would be held on 15 October 2006. Due to delays in the nomination of a new election committee the election were likely to be moved to November, but then cancelled indefinitely after the military's overthrow of the Thai government.
