I've been told that generational prostitution exists in Thailand. The full argument:

"I have been to Thailand and the many of the women I spoke with - primarily in Phuket - through a translator told me of their stories. And yes, they are stuck in a cycle of generational prostitution where the daughter takes over the job of the mother as she is too old to be desirable (the mother goes on to work in massage and then retire) because there are no other reliable jobs for them. They then are impregnated (often on the job) and their daughter(s) grow up to continue the cycle. They often live in the bars they work out of and the only hope to escape is to marry one of their clients."

True or false?

As far as the cycle goes, yes 100%

Some Thais are brought up as instinct to take care of the family and it is a duty. This sometimes puts pressure on the female to get a higher paying income. Hence prostitution. After the mind has spent so much time getting ten times more money than normal for 10 ten times less work it is almost impossible to escape that and work a decent job. For example do 10 years of getting 2000 baht a night for 3/4 hours work and you will never work in 7/11 for 300 baht a day working 10 hours.

The girl has a baby, hopes its a girl and then cycle will go again. The only escape is either get lucky with a good boyfriend or have extreme will power.

Sad but true, not of all poor Thais though.

It happens, yes.

I'm not sure about the use of the word "escape." By the word escape - some kind of imprisonment is assumed. This isn't the case most of the time. A woman makes a choice to work in the industry. She may rebel against her mother's life choices and do another job. She may follow her into the industry.

I think a mother who had been on the game would rather see her daughter matched and then married with a rich foreigner (arranged) , rather than put her through the highs and lows of the bar scene.

True, maybe escape was a little rash but in a small way true sometimes. Don't forget the huge amounts of money that can be involved. In a way it can be a trap.

Yes mothers I suppose would prefer the girl to find a good husband but she will still have to enter into it the same way, unless she is very lucky and meets elsewhere.

no other reliable job is a joke, right?

Thailand is importing labor because it is impossible to find Thai staff for some works.....

Just in the bar you can earn more money much easier.
