Immigration Closure Over Songkran

Featured Replies

You would only receive a 15 day visa exempt entry with a border crossing. Chiang Watanna is the only office available for extension of tourist visa if living in Bangkok. If you are there with the photo/1,900 baht Tuesday you should not have any problem getting a 30 day extension of a 60 day tourist visa entry.

Do you have directions (BTS) or a map to Chang Wattana?

Single reentry permit is 1,000, multiple is 3,800. Extension of stay is 1,900.

On March 26th I was charged 1,200 baht at Swampy for a single re-entry permit and was told the charge for a multiple one is now 4,000.

At the airport they charge a slightly higher fee, at all other immirgation offices it is the regular fee as mentioned.

Believe at airport the price is inclusive of copies/photo where at a normal office you are expected to provide these items.

Normal policy is to honor National holidays of both countries and 13 - 16 are official holidays of Thailand.

The fee for late 90 day reproting is 2,000 baht.

But don't forget, you can report by mail if you send the letter before the due date.

And the window for in person reporting is 15 day before until 7 days after due date.

Does anyone know which days the Jomtien/Chonburi office will be closed? I need to report on April 16.

NEW UPDATE!!

Re-entry Permit services will be closed on Saturday 14 April, 2012 at SuanPlu Office

As saturday the 14th is a holiday, they will be closed that day for a re-entry permit at Suan Plu office.

The Jomtien/Chonburi office is covered by the comment "Immigration Offices outside Bangkok will be closed likewise", ie it will be closed 13–16 April, open again for business on 17 April.

Thanks, but knowing what's happening in the areas surrounding the Chonburi Immigration Office in Jomtien on the 19th, it's very hard to believe they could function normally.

The areas is absolute mayhem with traffic at a standstill on Thepprasit Road, Sukhumvit Road and the Beach Road. I don't see how anyone could get near the office by any means, and if they did succeed they'd be totally drenched.

Perhaps the 19th is a special case for Jomtien.

The Chonburi office can be approached " from behind," i.e. without using the Jomtien Beach Rd. Unless you live east of Sukhumvit, there should be no need to use it and certainly no need to use the Jomtien Beach Rd. If you don't have a car, hire a taxi. Can't see why the possibility of you getting drenched would affect whether or not "they could function normally."

A friend who knows an officer there contacted him and he said they would be open after the 16th. Actually I would expect there would be fewer people to contend with in the office since so many farang will probably stay home ... and the following week will most likely be more chaotic because of that.

Sorry to disagree, but it would be absolute madness for anyone in Pattaya to attempt to get there on Songkran Day. Hire a taxi? Are you serious? Have you ever been in Pattaya on Songkran Day? All the main roads are parking lots and you need to use main roads to get to Jomtien.

I can imagine the officers are going to have a party on Songkran Day because they won't be doing much.

If I'm due to report on the 16th but do it on the 17th will I cop a fine?

Edited by tropo

No fine for reporting up to seven days late.
