Hi, first time I've posted though I've viewed the site many times over the years.

Cecil (Pierson) Brown, did anybody here know Cecil. I knew Cecil from around 1998 and 2007 when I left Thailand to return to the UK, though we drifted apart during the last couple of years and the last time I saw Cecil was at my wedding in 2006. Cecil could be a bit prickly, but he could also be really good company and if you were in the brown stuff he would always be there to bail you out.

We both lived in the same apartment block for a couple of years- Queen Mansion - on Sukhumvit 22 and our local was the New Cowboy just across the road.

We lost touch when I moved back tyo the UK , I sent a cou[ple of emails in 2008 , but they bounced back.

My family and I are coming to Bangkok in August and I wanted to catch up with Cecil. Sadly, when I ran his name through google it appeared that he had died in Bangkok in March 2008 aged 56. According to his obituary a tree has been planted in his memory in Bangkok.

I was wondering if anyone could fill in the gaps about the circumstances of his passing and the location of the tree.

Ainso, if we're talking about the same person and I believe we are, he and I were best buddies in college at University of Georgia and beyond. I lost touch with him for 25 years and finally contacted him while he was living in Thailand. The address you mention matches the last one I have. He wrote me lengthy emails and owned 2 restaurants there in Bangkok. He apparently was having trouble with some cut-throat business competitors and was having to go "underground" he claimed. I wired him $1,000 which was a lot for me at the time. I got an email shortly thereafter thanking me profusely. As I was moving last month, I came across the email, which I had printed out. It's dated May 12, 2005. He mentioned he would be returning to Cambodia. I'm pretty sure this is the last email I received from him and was unable to contact him through either email or by phone. The only puzzling thing here is that his name was actually Cecil Pearson Brown (not Pierson). I wondered about him when the tsunami hit Thailand a few years back. You mention his obit saying he passed in 2008 at age 56, which would have been his correct age. I'm terribly saddened to hear this and also would like to know the circumstances. RIP my good and faithful friend. Should you want to connect to compare notes, my email is [email protected]
