BANGKOK: -- Activist Ruangkrai Leekitwattana has petitioned the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate and determine whether Democrat MP Nutt Bantadtan violated the ethical code following his use of a smartphone to view a girlie picture during a parliamentary session.

Even though Nutt conceded he'd opened the picture sent by a messenger application in order to delete it, his action tarnished Parliament's reputation, Ruangkrai said yesterday.

Public confidence in Parliament has plummeted following the appearance of the raunchy image on two in-house TV monitors during the charter amendment debate on Wednesday.

Based on the Abac Poll released yesterday, some four in five people said they had lost trust in the legislative branch. About three in five said House Speaker Somsak Kiartsuranont should issue an apology for the incident.

More than half of the 2,664 respondents wanted officials responsible for the audio visual room to step forward and apologise for the mishap.

About one in three said Democrat MP Nutt should resign in order to accept responsibility for using his smartphone to view the picture.

Some three in five people said they believed the incident would fade away without any action taken.

In another survey done by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, about half the 1,127 respondents said Nutt had no credible explanation to justify his viewing of the picture when the legislative session was in progress.

Some two in five people said they believed both coalition and opposition lawmakers would politicise the incident for their political gains.

Almost half the respondents said they were uncertain whether there would be a repeat of the incident.

Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said the two opinion surveys showed the people wanted Nutt to quit his House seat.

Prompong said he was closely watching whether the Democrat Party would uphold the ethical code or opt to shield Nutt.

"The Democrats will tarnish their own reputation if they choose to keep a rotten fish," he said.

He also said his ruling party had lodged a complaint at the Dusit police station, calling for an investigation on whether Nutt's viewing of his smartphone had caused the mishap on the two TV monitors.

About three in five said House Speaker Somsak Kiartsuranont should issue an apology for the incident.

They'll have to nudge him awake first....

It's the role model House Speaker and Pheu Thai MP Somsak Kiatsuranon.

otherwise, it might tarnish the Pheu Thai reputation.

I think they should ban cell phones, computers, laptops and the internet in Thailand

These pesky devices all have to ability to corrupt the kind, caring and morally upstanding

citizens of Thailand. Thailand has no nudity, crime and corruption now, so to stop these

evil things from ravaging Thailand ........... ban them all now

his action tarnished Parliament's reputation, Ruangkrai said yesterday.

Oh my, does the stupidity never stop.

'Tarnish Parliament's reputation'... not possible. PTP MP's, Jutaporn, Charlem, the puppet/clone PM (who never shows up in parliament), and, of course, the great leader from afar (anyone in parliament notice his 'Let It Be' antics in Cambodia). All of these, and more, do more to bring shame on Thailand and it's parliament than one racy photo.

Amazing Thailand Indeed.

The Nation is a newspaper of double standards. It were no girlie pictures. It was a hardcore porn movie. If it was not there was no need to censor the pictures and the clip that played on several TV stations. It always amass me how the Nation as mouthpiece for everything that is wrong with THai politics demands action when anti royalists are doing something and how they play down the misbehavior of their friends. Try to list a alcoholic beverage company on the stock exchange and they are in bed with the ultra nationalist Chamlong, suggest that the PM has an affair in a hotel and they demand to know everything but now the son of a former Democrat Party leader is watching iron and has laced his presentation with pictures and it is either blamed on hackers or it is more or less insignificant. (What it is is, when it would have happened anywhere else except in parliament)

PTP MPs show no shame what so ever at trying ANYTHING to remove opposition,

including looking as dumb as stumps in their own public speeches.

If saying utterly idiotic things was a reason to resign, PTP would have long since lost their majority.

I think both sides of the house are being equally childish over this matter, the real problem is that it has been allowed by both sides to escalate and become a public issue. These two events reflect badly on parliament, and parliament means all parties. If they had any sense they would close ranks and go for damage limitation.

PORN PIC IN THE PARLIAMENT

Parliament to seek LG help to check source of porno picture

BANGKOK:-- The Parliament will seek help from LG Electronics (Thailand) to find out whose mobile phone or tablet sent a pornographic picture that was shown on the LG 65LW6500 65-inch LED-backlit TV in the assembly hall last week.

The LED-backlit TV, which is the main monitor inside the assembly hall, displayed the pornographic picture briefly last week while MPs and senators were deliberating the charter amendment bill in its second reading.

A group of senior officials of the Secretariat of the House of Representatives led a team of technicians from CAT Telecom to check and test how the TV could have received the photo over a Wi-Fi connection. Following the test, the officials agreed that House Secretary-General Pithoon Pumhiran would be well advised to seek help from LG Electronics, which could use a special tool to check its data receiving log to see which mobile phone or tablet sent the image to be displayed on the LG TV.

The test found that the LG TV is equipped with a Wi-Fi dongle and is compatible with the so-called DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), thus allowing it to receive video clips and digital photos from a mobile gadget that is DLNA-certified using the AllShare application.

The test found that a Samsung Galaxy Tab, a tablet computer which is DLNA ready, and the Samsung Galaxy Note, a smart phone which is also DLNA-compatible, could send a picture to be displayed on the LG TV without requiring any password. Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note are both equipped with the allshare application for sharing photos wirelessly.

The test also found that iPhone and iPAD could not send a photo to be displayed on LG TV directly without first approval by the TV owner.

Pithoon admitted that he only just realised that the TV could wirelessly receive photos from the allshare application without a password. He said he would consult IT experts how to set up a security system for the TV monitor.

Banyat's son cleared of sending porno picture to be displayed on Parliament TV monitor

A son of former Democrat Party leader Banyat has been cleared of sending a pornographic picture to be displayed on a TV monitor inside the assembly hall during a charter debate last week.

A technical test by IT experts from CAT Telecom Plc found that an iPhone could not display photos on the TV inside the assembly hall without prior approval by anyone in control of the TV remote.

Nat Bantadtan was caught on a camera using his mobile phone to view a pornographic photo during the charter debate nearly the same time when the pornographic photo was briefly displayed on the TV.

But Nat used an iPhone so he could not display the photo from his phone on the LT TV, Democrat spokesman Chawanon Intharakomalsut said Monday.

These MP's are technological morons.

Can't they ask someone technical what MIGHT have happened,

BEFORE they speak publicly?

Oh, no, guess not....

they would lose face by having to ask someone of lower status.

But if the name is big enough, that's OK, like Cat or LG.

How can they rule a country with so little knowledge of current technological items; like TVs and PHONES?

The PM should quit to show her responsibility.

Else it could tarnish Thailand reputation.

Why is it her responsibility - she wasn't there (again!!)

Exactly. She should be there making sure that the boys behaves.

Slash her whip, etc.

good grief... they'll be sending the Foreign Minister to Korea to consult with LG Electronics CEO Bon-Joon Koo at their world headquarters before this is through...

House Porn Scandal Probe Sees Progress

BANGKOK: -- The House deputy secretary-general has brought in telecommunication officials to check phone signals in Parliament's compound and they found that a phone with android system could transfer pictures onto a projector screen in the meeting room while iPhone could not.

Further results will be released by the Information and Communication Technology Ministry.

House Deputy Secretary-General Kampee Disthakorn has been appointed to head the investigation into the appearance of a pornographic picture popping up on a giant plasma screen during the House meeting last week.

He has deployed officials from CAT Telecom Public Company Limited and Parliament's technical department to gather technical information and find phones that could link to the screen in question.

After testing with a phone with android system, it was found that pictures can be transferred onto the screen.

Meanwhile, when tested with an iPhone, pictures could not be transferred onto the screen.

House Secretary-General Pitoon Pumhiran said the results will examined again today by the Information and Communication Technology Ministry.

However, the wrongdoers must be punished according to regulations and might be ousted from Parliament.
