Burma and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) held a forum in Naypyidaw on Thursday on plans to conduct a national census in 2014. The forum was jointly organized by UNFPA and the Ministry of Immigration and Population and attended by lawmakers and members of the National Commission on Population and Development. Earlier this week, the UN and the Burmese government exchanged letters setting out principles for conducting the census, and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged international donors to support the effort. The census will be the first since 1983.
