There are many stories related to the sinking of the Titanic. Some have come to light due to the success of the movie. For example, most people don’t know that back in 1912 Hellman’s mayonnaise was manufactured in England. The Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after New York City.

The Mexican people were eagerly awaiting delivery and were disconsolate at the loss. So much so that they declared a national day of mourning which they still observe today. It is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.

Ha, ha Shot, you are quite the card, not to be dealt with.

Actually whats funny is that some think this is Mexican Independence day, which it's not. It's the celebration of a battle, where the French (whose white flag factory had yet to burn down) were out waving the flags although the Mexicans had been out numbered. In Vera Cruz if I remember my history class right.............and if you tell me to go to google I'll have to come and and go KBB on you.

Anyway where I come from we call it Cinco de Drinko

Ok, never heard of this so did google.

From Wikipedia:

"Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Pueblo where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla). The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin Contrary to widespread popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is actually celebrated on September 16."

That's right, Cinco De Mayo falls on the 5th this year does it? ;)

Rick n Roll's is having a Mexican food thing tonight.. Should still be going on at this hour. I think this is the thing he does most every Saturday, so not sure if this one is a May 5 thing or not. Nothing on his site about it. I heard this is the last one for high season.
