Return of the 111 won't cause upset: poll

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Public sentiment is that the political landscape will remain unchanged despite the expiry of the political ban on 111 Thai Rak Thai executives, according to the results of a survey by Suan Dusit Poll released yesterday.

About one in three people welcomed the 111 returning to politics, saying they could make positive contributions to the country.

They voiced optimism that the 111 would be given a second chance to work in the public service. They were split, however, on whether the 111 should join the Cabinet.

One in three said the presence of the 111 could strengthen the government's work. But about the same number of people said they opposed the idea for two reasons - that the 111 could fuel the political divide and that it was time for young blood to assume responsibility.

The nation-wide survey involved 2,952 respondents in 15 selected provinces.

In a separate survey, the Abac Poll said Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra enjoyed the highest popularity rating for the past nine months, followed by three deputy prime ministers, Chalerm Yoobamrung, Chumpol Silapa-archa and Yuthasak Sasiprapha.

The other popular Cabinet members were Justice Minister Pracha Promnok, Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong, Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit and Defence Minister Sukampol Suwannathat.

Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyaphirom and his two deputies were among the 10 least-known Cabinet members.

Five least-known Cabinet members were Deputy Transport Minister Chadchart Sittpunt, Deputy Finance Minister Tanusak Lekuthai, Energy Minister Arak Chonlatanon, Deputy Commerce Minister Poom Sarapol and PM's Office Minister Nivatthamrong Boonsongpaisal.

Almost one in two people said they wanted Pheu Thai MP Jatuporn Promphan in the Cabinet line-up. About three in five people said the Cabinet should be reshuffled to boost performance.

Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said Jatuporn was qualified for a ministerial appointment, reacting to speculation about replacing Deputy Interior Minister Choochart Hansawas. Commenting on the Cabinet line-up, Information and Communications Technology Minister Anudith Nakornthap said he anticipated no ripple effects from the 111 joining the government.

He said he believed the government would become stronger following the reshuffle.

He also said he had no idea whether Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, one of the 111, would accept a ministerial appointment.

"The nation-wide survey involved 2,952 respondents in 15 selected provinces."

If they don't tell us;

which provinces and

why they picked these provinces, and

the exact questions asked,

there can be no real validity in this poll.

Doing so, is standard polling procedures if validity is desired, if not,

then the result derived by technique is the most likely desired outcome.

Is this "nation-wide" North to South ; Chaing Rai to Yala,

or North West to North East ; Uthai Thani to Ubon Ratchathani.

Both are "Nation Wide" but would give significantly different results.

For instance if those 3,000 odd persons are residents of the 111 godfathers provinces,

of course the likelihood of them giving this 'poll result' increases greatly.

all learned that being a good, fine, honest citizen is the way to go.

After all, look at their Dear Leader, he wants noting more than a good

honest and long term reconciliation for everyone cheesy.gif

Exactly, without revealing the data cross-section and the questions, these polls which have been appearing in the news for the last two weeks appear to be just part of the massive Shinawatra marketing machine.

Easy for Dusit or Abac to wriggle out if grilled as to why they performed a one sided demographic poll.

All they have to say is they conducted a PT-pre-prepared-poll on selected areas, and questions.

The very fact they take so many polls designed to make them look good is a sign of their desperation to keep the public from looking to close at what they are really doing.

Poll's are such a farce here in the land of smiles. Give me enough money and I will come back with a poll that says 95% of the people don't believe Yingluck ever smiles. I will visit 70 provinces and come back with a poll tally of over 6,000 people.

The result of a poll can be anything you want it to be.

Thaddeus thanks spot on observations in this clip.

And even if it was a tv show it was accurate in what it parodied,

as the best parodies must be.

I am sure all the other PTP cronies will love being pushed down the list as the 111 prodigal sons and daughters return higher up the food chain than them. How will they make space for them all?

As the members being pushed aside were all proxies in the first place, I doubt that they will be surprised or disappointed, and will be paid handsomely to ease any disappointment they feel.
