[Myanmar] Canada Ends 10-Year Limbo For Karen Man

A Karen man who had been denied asylum in Canada for nearly a decade has been given the right to remain in the country after receiving a special “ministerial relief†on Sunday. According to the Canadian Friends of Burma, Minister of Immigration, Citizenship and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney made the announcement during a visit to a Burmese Buddhist temple in Toronto on May 6. Lerwah Bo’s case had been in limbo because of his past involvement with the armed Karen resistance in Burma. In 2009, another Burmese refugee claimant, Nay Myo Hein, was similarly spared deportation on humanitarian grounds.
