[Myanmar] Soldiers Who Used Forced Labor To Face Prosecution

Senior military chiefs said that soldiers suspected of using forced labor will be prosecuted in civilian courts following a meeting with the International Labour Organization (ILO), according to the Democratic Voice of Burma. The Burmese Army has a history of using forced labor especially in ethnic minority areas and cases are still being reported in Karen, Arakan and Kachin states. The government has promised the ILO better access to conflict zones. Despite an increase in recorded cases since the ILO introduced a complaints mechanism in 2007 no soldiers have yet been prosecuted.
