[Myanmar] Shortage Of Hiv And Aids Drugs In Burma

Doctors have warned that there is a huge shortfall in the amount of drugs needed to treat the 240,000 HIV sufferers in Burma, according to The Guardian. Of this number, half are urgently in need of life-saving anti-retroviral treatment (ART), yet in 2010 fewer than 30,000 received the drugs. Doctors have to ration the drugs and only give them to the weakest patients. Unfortunately, the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria has had to cut funding which would have supplied enough ART to treat an extra 46,500 people by 2018.
