The Campaign Committee for the Amendment of Article 112, Thailand’s lèse majesté law, held bathing rites for Ampon Tangnoppakul outside the Criminal Court on Tuesday before his funeral procession passed Government House and Parliament on Thursday. The 62-year-old had been serving a 20-year sentence for sending four defamatory texts that breached Article 112. According to The Nation, the organizers said the procession was non-political and designed to remind the authorities that Ampon died before receiving justice. The 112 campaign questioned the conviction and whether Ampon sent the texts.
