Thanks for the answers to my problem. Like Mario I'm a bit concerned that I may not have a stamp with a future date, I hope they amend this problem soon it's not good.

Going on 25th should be ok but no harm in turning up on 22nd.

If you were going to be rejected you would have heard by now.

Don't worry.

I went today Thursday 21st, and was told to come back tomorrow (Fri 22nd). There were a number of people in the same boat. I was told I should have known to come on the Friday. Eh??

I dare say this will pan out, but I need to think of a plan B just in case. So if nothing happens tomorrow and no dated stamp is forthcoming I think I should exit Thailand before the 24th (my expiry stamp date) and if I fly back in I think I can get a 30 day stamp, and immediately renew the application back in Bangkok with the help of a lawyer this time.

A couple of questions though:

1. Could I make an application at a Thai Consulate in another country, say Laos.? Is the paperwork the same?

2. If I felt the service I got at BKK immigration was poor, could I make a complaint?

Sorry Mommysboy but you sound like one.

You have got the extension do not worry, they grant all of them, if the marriage is a real one.

You can complain about the service but remember one thing, you have to go back there for your 90 day reporting and also for a new extension in the future.

If your extension has not been approved by your "under consideration" date then you will be given a further 1 month "under consideration and so on until approval is given.

My personal record for these under consideration stamps is 8 consecutive, but that was many years ago. If your marriage is real do not worry. As for starting over, even with a lawyer, you will still get 30 days under consideration. To apply in Bangkok you will require a Bangkok address and photos of you and your wife at that address.

Of course you could lodge a formal complaint, but ... well I wouldn't. Note what beano2274 says in previous post.

As has been said, don't worry. There seems to be a backlog, so it taking extra time is not unsusual.

If they tell you to come on a certain day, just go on that day.

Bit of a one? Because I am worried about not having a valid stamp. First time I've heard people just walking around with expired stamps in their passport.

Yes well I'd rather be 'a bit of a one' with a valid stamp in my passport.

Thanks for the post John Wayne.

Oh No I see, I'm a 'one'. What should a one do? I mean I already turned myself in to a 2 when I got married !

And of course I should have foreseen that when they stamped 24th on the come back date, they didn't really mean the 24th, or the 22nd, but of course the 23rd, how foolish of me.

And really expecting a visa without hassle having qualified and paid good money, ooh I am a one aren't I?

Yes you are.

You will get your extension. Go and have a beer and relax.

Cool down, actually it is not that uncommon for people that when they go to recieve their extension of stay based on having a Thai wife the decision is not yet made and they are told to come back another month later, without getting a new permission to stay. No rpoblems with that have been reported and immirgation have their files which can be checked that you are staying legally.

A few years ago it took about 8 months to get the decision.

Had to keep going back every month.

A lot easier now.

Would, but unlucky enough to puke up after just a small amount.

Being reflective, I think it is just the attitude of the staff that is getting to me, I mentioned this at the start of the thread. Again it was one of the guys we saw, and again that sarcastic attitude. I've applied and received many types of visa in Thailand over the course of a decade and not come up against this BS before. Is this some problem peculiar to the 'Thai Wife' extension?

Feeling a bit stupid too, the lawyer said he would prefer to handle it, and said he would have gone to Samut Prakarn.

I'll let him handle any censure. But I'm not putting up with any more gobsh**e.

That day is (was) the 24th which is a Sunday, maybe one of us needs a beer, maybe one of us needs to put one down.

As said by many people before "don't worry". If your application was seen by immigration to be missing something they would have said already.

Of course your lawyer says he would like to handle it. He will also probably be happy to releive you of 20000 baht for doing next to nothing.

If you puke after just a little beer then try a gin and tonic.burp.gif

I have a report back date 6 July for my marriage visa extension.

The Thai officer at the Immigration in Kanchanaburi have helped me and my wife a lot concerning the paper work.

She was most helpfull and professional and her English was fluently.

The visit at our home and interview of our neighbors was smooth and easy.thumbsup.gif

Maybe the guy you saw just had a bad day...crying.gif

I called, my extension's ready and I'll be off to get my stamp in a couple of hours. With Murphy's law in the game I'll probably get stopped by police on the way and spend some splendid time in monkey house explaining why I don't have a valid stamp on my passport :D

I wouldn't worry about getting stopped. You are not the first person to not to have a new stamp in their passport after report back day passed.

Immigration in Pattaya has a reputation for not putting new stamp in the passport. Also for the paperwork not being done yet. I suspect that is because they sent it in for approval to late.

The two months that they gave you don't count until your permit to stay date because they don't send them in for approval until after that date.

Well, got the stamp now. I saw from the date that I had been granted the extension on 18.6 (I saw the papers from BKK, had to go make a copy of the page I was on), explains why it wasn't at Pattaya on 19.6. If they really process the applications on the last day possible, I don't see any idea in applying early like I did. Next year I'm just going to wait until the last days as well.

Yes I got a stamp today too. Can't see the point processing on the last possible day, says a lot.

Poor overall experience for me, not happy at all, I'll use my lawyer in future.

I wondered why people advised me to just go the retirement visa route, now I know.

Yes looking back it was definitely that second interview that set me off, it was in such stark contrast to the first, I guess it was just luck of the draw.

And then of course he goes and puts the wrong return date on!

A lawyer won't make any difference. Only to your pocket.

Another year before you do it again. smile.png

Am sure you will find out that it was decided before, the date put on the new extension should be the day your last permission to stay was valid until.

My previous extension was until - 28 Nov 2011

I applied for a new extension on - 14 Nov 2011

Had to return on 13 Dec 2011 which I did.

New extension valid until - 28 Nov 2012 ( notice the previous and this extensions valid until date)

Added - my local officer advised me to go the Retirement way, am only just 46, he said it would be easier. maybe try that next time with him.

not to difficult to know why your getting attitude from people, probably because you give it to start with.

One thing I have noticed about the Thai people since I moved here permanently last Jan. 2012.

The difference in culture and language make it so so so easy to misunderstand a situation.

I experience many times things that i consider an insult. But I always discover later, that it is always a matter of

bad translation or some stupid misunderstanding.

So never get upset... You gain nothing and you can only make you situation worse.

That's not true at all. I am polite, and amenable. I generally speak more Thai than most and always try to smile and say thank you. Often I side step problems. When riled, yes fair enough, and also when attacked by people I don't know .

Accordingly, s*d awff.

I've been here about 10 years at first I thought much the same thing, but after you learn to speak the lingo a bit, you see that it isn't just a language problem.

But you are right of course it is best not to become insulting, so I don't

But what straight talking and just being firm?

There are merits to what you say, but it sets you on a course of passive resignation and lack of direction, that is evident everywhere in Thailand as it is.

Got the stamps now and all is fine for another year, it's time to relax. Sabaisabai, no worries, eh ?
