i need to take an early flight from samui to bangkok this weekend and will most likely spend the previous night in samui so that it's easier for me to get to the airport on time. any suggestions on places to stay and the best way to get there from koh phangan? thx

In my opinion it doesn't really matter where you stay on Samui, hte hotel can get you to the airport on time.

Yep, seems like everyone stays at Mermaid. Just get off the boat at Big Buddha and have a motor bike taxi run you over to Mermaid. They have rooms for 400 baht w/hot water on the right hand side of the road going towards the airport.

I always just flag down a motor bike taxi in the morning to get me to the airport as well. The only thing I have to say is the last time I stayed there, the water in the bathroom seemed like it had a lot of sulfur in it or salt water.

That was during the big rains, so I hope that's not the case now.

There's a cool little place called Sit's Dynamic Kitchen on the beach when you get off the Haad Rin boat. Look for the bungalows at the end of the pier on the right. Owner Sit has lived in the UK, is really friendly, rooms are very cheap and clean, and there are great sunsets to watch from the bar!
