[Myanmar] Govt To Boost Electricity As Protests Continue

Burma’s state-run television announced on Wednesday that the government will boost electricity supplies in the country in the wake of protests over power cuts. The extra electricity will be produced in part by six generators purchased from US-based Caterpillar Inc and two 25-MW gas turbines bought from General Electric Co, also of the US. The generators are expected to be air-freighted to Burma within the week, the government said. A total of 37 high-powered generators will be deployed in Rangoon, Mandalay and Prome, the three cities that have seen protests since early this week.
