I was at Immigration the other day and got my '30 days consideration' stamp for my yearly Non O extension. Can I withdraw the B400,000 from my a/c now or will it be checked again on getting my extension?

I don't want to be caught out, but I have never heard of anyone being asked for it after the 'consideration' stamp. Have you or anyone you know ever been asked for it?

Thanks

JD

Never heard of a requirement to keep the money after application. This IS a requirement for investment visa, but I don't think for marriage visa. I' ve done it for many years already and never had a problem (maybe because I didn't think about this could cause a problem?? Law of attraction... ;-). )

No expert on this, but I myself had never seen or heard of problems concerning this

Thanx Passiebeer. Anyone else? Really don't want to go thru it all again if it is checked!!!

Prior to the required seasoning period of 2 months it was a problem that often caused delay (until person asked) when a check was made and money not found. This was taken as a sign the money was borrowed and not owned. This does not seem to happen now that you are required to show funds in account prior to application for 2 months.

Why take the risk? Desperate for money? Borrowed it and have to pay it back quickly?

That would be my conclusion as an immigration officer 'considering' your visa.

For all reports for last several years it should be safe to use the money once application has been accepted.

That said - if I did not need to I would not remove. Hard to be more than 99% sure of anything and prefer a sure thing.

No, but would much prefer it back in our fixed term account rather than a low interest savings a/c

Why can't you have it in a fixed term account?

I'm also "under consideration" and the answer from the officer at immigration was the same as all the years before "better to keep in account". I guess in case the consideration bounces and I need to reapply. So I'm keeping the 400k there until I get my stamp. Had it there >3months prior to applying just in case they'd happen to decide 3months was needed this time. You never know what they'll ask for next, an adventure every year.

Few years back immigration somewhere complained about an account having no traffic in it, you do have to copy the bankbook so they'll be able to see if it's the same money every year, untouched on an account. It was reported here on TV, I think. I guess it depends on the phase of the moon if they'll want traffic on the account or no.

No traffic on the account is needed, as long as the 400,000 is there and long enough.

But if you don't touch the money, immigration might inquire how you provided for your living expenses. Normally a bankbook for another bankaccount with trafic in it will do, alternatively you can show them your ATM card and some ATM slips to show you have and are spending money.

As long as you can access the money, even when it is with a fine (or lower intrest) it is normally accpeted. What is not accepted is an account where you don't have any access to the money during the agreed term.

After my last application and while under consideration they came to the house to check re-check all the paperwork, take more photos etc.

Seems a follow up home visit is a new regulation so probably better keep the money in the bank till the extension is granted.

I don't think it's new, just rarely enforced. Can't think of any other reason why they'd want a map and instructions to the house (I've used Google Maps to print one out) when applying.

Khon Kaen immi told me last year I could start using it as soon as the application was received.

Thanx to everyone for your input and experiences. I think I will just keep in the a/c until I actually get the extension: too much to gamble!!

You can access fixed term, but lose interest on previous months. It has been acceptable for me.

I have a non immigration O visa but it is not for marriage nor business purposes, its for volunteering..consider that, a multi entry visa for volunteering - its the same visa!!

No it is not.

We are talking about extensions of stay.

You are talking about a Visa.

for the past couple of years I have had 400000 baht in a deposit account, I never transfered the funds into a current account, and have not had a problem with renewing my non immigration 'O'marriage visa. As long as you can show you have the funds, I don't think it matters what sort of account it is in. My understanding is, that once the application has been made you can spend or do as you please with the funds.

This is Amazing " Myrical " Thailand anything can happen within hours with no warning if I were you I would leave the money well alone until everything is in order. One year when renewing my O visa the guy in charge was not happy with me because I only had brought in money once in that year it seemed irrelevent that it was nearly 1 mil thai baht so to please him I now transfer my funds 3/4 times a year so he can see it on my scb statements I only bring in what I need which is much less than what I used to transfer once every year but that is the way he wanted to see it so who am I to argue !!!!! I will be renewing later this week and although I have the income I still dread all the messing about every year maybe I should do what I see others doing " Bearing gifts in Tesco bags " they always seem to get through the queue a lot faster !!!!

Being from a western country myself, I am uncomfortable about bribing officials. tho here it seems there is no consequence and little chance of being reported. Recently I visited about 10 shops and asked if they were dealing in an illegal and prohibited service (not prostitution, but will still here be un-named) I was surprised that they all confessed readily to it, and some gave me many details about how they did it, I a perfect stranger to them, and could easily have been a government informer.

I keep getting mixed messages from Immigration in Ranong about the 40,000 per month income and the 400,000 in the account, one time they say the income of more than 40,000 baht per month is ok, next time they say I need the 400,000 in the account, the website says 40,000 income per month, or 400,000 in the bank or a combination, very frustrating.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month OR a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Yes, that is what the Immigration website says, but the officers at the office keep changing the requirements each time I visit, one time more than 40,000 income, next time 400,000 in the bank.

Just go in to make your application with proof of the 40K income or 400K in the bank for 60 days. They can't change those rules.
