May 27, 201214 yr I just received a Non O Single Entry Visa in Savannakhet, Laos based on having a Thai child. Is this visa able to be changed to a 1 year multiple entry visa at a local immigration office? Or am I only able to receive an extension of stay?
May 27, 201214 yr No, it won't changed to a multi-entry at immigration, but you may be able to apply for a one year "Extension of Stay" and then apply for a multi re-entry permit for 3800 Baht.
May 27, 201214 yr There are a lot of ifs for getting an extension of stay based having a Thai child. First you must be able to show an income of 40K baht per month or have 400K baht in a Thai bank. Were you involved in getting the child's birth certificate at the Amphoe? Meaning that you signed as the father. Only some immigration offices will give the extension with only the birth certificate. Some will want legitimization and others a court order. Which immigration office you can apply at depends upon where you live.

Back in April my TR Visa was about to expire on my Triple Entry TR (last entry) so I decided just to go to immigration and get a 30 day extension for the 1,900 Baht. The lady at immigration noticed I had the birth certificate and I made copies and she gave me 60 days for 1,900 Baht and an extension of stay stamp in my passport. How much does a 1 Year Extension of Stay cost? What is involved to obtain a multiple re-entry permit? Thanks
May 27, 201214 yr 12 Month Extension costs 1,900 Baht. Apply for the Re Entry Permit at the same time. Application Form and passport size photo needed plus the fee of 3,800 Baht.

After you get the extension you just fill out a TM8 application form for the re-entry permit. You will need copies of your passport photo page, extension page, TM6 departure card and one photo.
May 28, 201214 yr If you are not married then legally you are not the father, so far as I know you will only get the 60 day extensions and not a year. But am sure a mod will be able to confirm this, or put me in my place.
May 28, 201214 yr The Re-entry permit costs 1000 single, 3800 multiple. If you have to leave Thailand a good deal and always important.
May 28, 201214 yr There was a recent case of a person recieving a 1 year extension, but that is certainly not the norm if one is not the legal father.
May 28, 201214 yr If you are not married then legally you are not the father. There are a lot of Thai's that have several children (and grand children) that have never registered their marriage. So does that rule apply to them also or only to foreigners? There was a recent case of a person recieving a 1 year extension, but that is certainly not the norm if one is not the legal father. I think from looking back through posts it's only the norm at a few immigration offices which are located where there is a large population of foreigners. The OP should at least try to get the extension if he can meet all the other requirements.
