2Nd Hand Civic, 38,000Km On Clock, 760K, Is This Value?

Featured Replies

A neighbour is selling a 2008 Honda Civic for THB 760,000.

It's done 38,000km and looks to be in pretty good condition inside and out.

No accidents, but tiny chips in the paint here and there.

Is this good value?

Sounds pretty high to me. I bought a Honda Jazz, top of the range, like new, with 30,000klms, 3 years old, from a dealer on Sukhumvit, for 600,000. I don't know how much more expensive the Civic's are, but I think the Jazz was around 750,000 baht new. As you know, used cars don't depreciate in Thailand like they do in other countries. As much as I loved the Jazz, I ended up trading it in on a 7 year old Isuzu D Max 4 door pickup. The roads where I live were a recipe for some serious undercarriage damage. Never regretted the down trade for a second, the Isuzu is bulletproof and practical, not to mention better visibility.

No it is a little expensive. May I suggest you check www.one2car.com. More than 2000 Civics for sale, just by glancing at the first page, I found a Civic 2010 for 715k, Good site for refference-prices.

Is it a 1.8 or 2.0? Note the 2.0 will use more fuel (around 1-2 km/l difference). And do you know the history of the car. Any accidents or flood damage? Second hand prices are always high, maybe you can bargain a bit. If you are still keen but don't know the cars real history, maybe pay the Test Car company to get a full check.

I liked culicine's advice - you'd need to know the model of Civic S, E, or EL to judge whether the price is fair. Test Car is a fair service, they give no recommendation whether to buy or not, or for what price, they just test and report. For just 100 baht you could get a valuation from the Red Book website; they give the same info in Thai and English and give both a trade-in and private sale suggested value.

I just found that the original price was THB 964,000.

Will check out Red Book

I paid 940K for mine Civic EL.in 2007.

If I where you, I would pay the extra 180-200 K and get the new model.

New model has just come out - from what I've read online, it's not very popular anywhere worldwide and a refreshed model will be released next year to appease the criticism it has been receiving! Won't the resale value be hit hard if it's that undesirable?

Whats the waiting list time with Honda? must be long as they only just recommenced full production. Thinking of going to the dealer today and asking about the current City model for the wife!.

6-7 month waiting list for new City.

Apparently it's because of the floods last year, plus the demand because of the Government tax back for first time buyers scheme.

I got some help to look into the car.

It was built delivered in Dec 2008 but was registered in Jan 2009.

The bank valued it at THB 750,000 which I used I managed to shave THB 10,000 off the asking price.

Not sure whether to go for it, wait 6-7 months for a new City or a Mazda 2.

I think you've found a great car at a fair price, far superior to a City or 2. I own a base-model City but one of my friends recently traded in his top-spec City for a used Civic and hasn't shut up about it since - it's a higher class of car all-round, I didn't want to get back in my own City after taking it for a spin; the handling, power, features - it's just incomparable. If I were you, I'd go for it. From what I've read, the new Civic is just a minor change over the old one with E85 compatibility which you probably can't find to buy anyway. Just my $0.02.

What would be a fair price for a 2009 2.0 Civic with Modulo kit, Navi etc? 50k on the clock. Full Honda service history. Not a scratch or dent on it. Leather + all interior pristine.

I paid 450,000 in 2009 for my 2007 civic with 45,000 kms.

still going strong with over 300,000!!!!!

Wow, that looks like a very good deal. Is it expensive to keep/insure?

I couldn't negotiate my neighbour down any further:

2009 White Honda Civic AT AS (top model with navigator) 1.8 litre

38,000km on clock

Serviced every 10,000km by Honda garage

Spoiler and skirt around the whole car

Tiny chips in paint

Interior is a little worn

How does the interior get worn in 38000 kms? Even not maintained for a year it should be near perfect. Mine is still great after 200K kms. Does the owner have full insurance? I wonder if he can get hose chips repaired under insurance before you get it? You could offer to pay the small excess...

Thai people don't care, as long as it's a Honda. I've also read bad reviews of the new civic but think they're nonsense. There's really no difference between the the new one and the last one. Can anyone actually explain how the new one is worse than the previous one?
