Around 600 people living on land rented from the Burmese army in Rangoon’s North Okkalapa Township are facing immediate eviction after being given less than 10 days to relocate by May 31. According to a report by the Democratic Voice of Burma, many of those told to move said they wouldn’t be able to do so at such short notice, as many have livestock to care for. “They should have warned us six months to a year in advance so that we can find a new location,†said one tenant.  Shop owners on the land were told their property would be destroyed if they missed the deadline.
