webfact Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 105 tablet computers ready for delivery The Nation BANGKOK: -- The first few tablet computers for school children is ready for official delivery today, the Office of Basic Education Commission (Obec) said in a statement yesterday. A ceremony will be held at 1.30pm today at Government House, where 105 units will be delivered to teachers and students. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will be at hand to provide tutorials. The units will be delivered to education offices in the Regional Office 1 grouping in each province alphabetically, followed by the Regional Office 2 grouping and so on once Shen Zhen Scope Scientific Development delivers the first lot of 400,000 units. The first lot of devices will be delivered 60 days after the contract was signed on May 10, followed by 600,000 units 30 days later. There are some 183 education offices across the country. A source said the first lot had been restricted to 400,000 units, because the first 2,000 units delivered to the Education Ministry did not pass the specifications. However, the source said weaker batteries should not affect the tablets' efficiency and the 2,000 should not fail the overall test. "Once the first 2,000 units pass the tests, production of the 400,000 units would begin," he added. -- The Nation 2012-06-07
Popular Post Yunla Posted June 6, 2012 Popular Post Posted June 6, 2012 Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will be at hand to provide tutorials. Hang up the festive decorations for today is a day of rejoicing. Here you go kids, here's your tenth-rate obsolete tablet. Giving you this skanky piece of plastic is PTP's only government policy. Now you can forget about your parents struggling with the food prices and school uniform prices and all the rest of it. Look when you press this button it goes "beep". Aren't you lucky! Oh its broken. 25

Ricardo Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Well that's a start, and only a few weeks late too, now for the other 900,000. 1
sirchai Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 (edited) A ceremony will be held at 1.30pm today at Government House, where 105 units will be delivered to teachers and students. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will be at hand to provide tutorials. Why can't they just install a screen plus projector/PC (not made in China) in each classroom and things would be fine. What about the schools that are still without electricity? Not even talking about WiFi. Shouldn't that have priority? I'm confused........ Guess most teachers involved are already sick and tired of that BS...... Edited June 7, 2012 by sirchai 1
GentlemanJim Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 (edited) How did the first 2000 units fail the checks when tpday they are delivering the first 105 units? I hope there is a maths program on the tablet as they need to recalculate the delivery schedule. I have just informed my daughter she is likely to get hers when she is 87. I have still never worked out why such a valuable project was not given to a Thai company. I hope these tablets are coming with a nice sturdy case. My kids would have destroyed our ipad 10 times over already had it not been for the case. I guess the young school kids will never drop them though will they. Edited June 7, 2012 by GentlemanJim

It's interesting that they restricted the first batch to 400,000 because the first lot didn't pass BEFORE they received the 2,000 for testing. Sent from my shoe phone
voodoomagicman Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Is it me or is it every time I read an article about these tablets the numbers quoted seem to get smaller everytime? 1
GentlemanJim Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Is it me or is it every time I read an article about these tablets the numbers quoted seem to get smaller everytime? Not to worry they have delivered 105 today, 30 days after contract signing. Now they have 30 days left to deliver 400 000, I am sure it will be a piece of pi** Remember this is after all Miracle Thailand. 2
phl Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Not having to repeat what's been said above, but if it takes 30 days to deliver 105 working units, how they plan to do 400 000 more in the same time frame of 30 days ? 2

ThaiOats Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Funny how Yingluck has the time to go and hand out tablets but not the time to go read one of the most urgent (according to PTP) bill or attend Parliament. 2
Popular Post bedouin1990 Posted June 7, 2012 Popular Post Posted June 7, 2012 Why does this situation remind me of 5 monkeys trying to fornicate a football? 7
voodoomagicman Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 We could have a sweepstake on the number of tablets delivered next month, range of 0 to 400,000.
Popular Post Yunla Posted June 7, 2012 Popular Post Posted June 7, 2012 (edited) Not having to repeat what's been said above, but if it takes 30 days to deliver 105 working units, how they plan to do 400 000 more in the same time frame of 30 days ? The delivery schedule is not important, the celebration held today with kids meeting the PM, the PM handing nice shiny technology down to the smiling happy children, is the whole purpose of this policy. This is the shallow gimmickry which lies at the very centre of the otherwise empty PTP policy package. As pure gimmickry it is only for show, nobody expects the tablets to survive very long anyway, cheap downmarket tech has built-in obsolescence to keep you buying new items. As it is all insubstantial eye-candy, a piece of showmanship, you do not need to wonder about future tablets arriving, look at the smiling happy kids today! See Yingluck in touch with the young people, see her educating them on how to use their nice new items that she has provided for them with her dutiful political campaigning. Like Robin Hood in high-heels. It makes me want to join the redmob and push through all of Yingluck's bills, because she makes children so happy. Edited June 7, 2012 by Yunla 12
Woodcaulk Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will be at hand to provide tutorials. There will no doubt be a prime photo-op of her turning one on in front of the children for the benefit of the media. Wouldn't it be really nice if when that happens it is infected with a virus that results in the screen being filled with a pornographic scene that cannot be deleted before it is captured by photo/video and uploaded to Youtube and goes viral? 1
ThaiOats Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Oh how I wish Thai people take heed of how they are being perceived from the outside and foreigners. To ignore it is ignoring self critique which is important for self improvement.
Popular Post Thaddeus Posted June 7, 2012 Popular Post Posted June 7, 2012 Is it me or is it every time I read an article about these tablets the numbers quoted seem to get smaller everytime? They have weapons of math destruction. 19
Buchholz Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Is it me or is it every time I read an article about these tablets the numbers quoted seem to get smaller every time? From 11,000,000 proclaimed to the 105 actual is a bit of a drop in numbers. That even beats the drop of the 1,000,000 proclaimed to the 2,535 actual with the Thai Elite Card. . 1
Buchholz Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Only time YS ever shows up is for a photo op Or to share Chalerm's pork noodle...
OzMick Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 i wonder if Yingluk's tutorial will go much past "This is the ON button.........." 1
smutcakes Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Well this shoud shut a few of you naysayers up who say that PTP are only concentrating on the return of Thaksin, and not carrying out their campaign promises Bring on the haterz

GentlemanJim Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Well this shoud shut a few of you naysayers up who say that PTP are only concentrating on the return of Thaksin, and not carrying out their campaign promises Bring on the haterz I think you need one of the tablets with the 'Learn English Fast' program installed on it. If you think 105 tablets out of 900 000 is going to shut people up you are mistaken. If you think 105 serviceable tablets out of the initial batch of 2000 is good then you are also gravely mistaken. 2
tragickingdom Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 105 computers? Where did they get them from? Best Buy? The computers were obviously bought from a Mickey Mouse company.
Sayonarax Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 weaker batteries should not affect the tablets efficiency Im sure the supplier has made one bad arse super USB hub that all the students can hook in too if little Somchai or the teacher forgets to charge them.

Clearly not enough money has been spent on either project.
astral Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Even if they work I predict that most will be damaged within a very short time. Being placed in a school bag and thrown around/dropped is not an ideal environment for any computer................ I am not being cynical, just commenting based on hard experience.
Colabamumbai Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Now she is giving "tablet turorials", rumour is about 2:30 p.m. around the corner from Government house there will be a sale on tablet computers. Won't this add to the existing motorcycle driving problems, 13 year olds with no licences, dog, cell phone, no mirrors, 5 on the bike, I wonder whose gonna get the computer, the driver I figure eh!
