Police tightens security after charter court judges receive threats

BANGKOK, 7 June 2012 (NNT) – The Metropolitan Police Bureau is deploying additional police personnel for the security of Constitution Court President Wasan Soipisut and 8 other judges, following threats made against them.

After the Constitution Tribunal accepted five petitions lodged by a group of senators and MPs questioning the legality of the charter amendment draft, the judges have been placed under special protection.

Police Major General Anan Srihirun, Deputy Metropolitan Police Commander, said authorities are providing 24-hour security around the residences of the presiding judge and 8 other judges.

The deputy commander added that the Metropolitan Police Bureau is also coordinating with Bang Sue, Suthisarn, Khlong Tan and Taling Chan Police Stations as well as relevant agencies in Nonthaburi and Nakhon Pathom provinces to closely monitor the situation and ensure safety for the Constitution Court judges.

AFAIK threatening judges is a serious offense, even in Thailand. IMHO Yoswaris by releasing contact details enabled this crime and qualifies as an accessory.

OTOH under this government, red shirts don't get prosecuted for much more blatant criminal acts.

Seven judges of the Constitution Court should resign: Weng

BANGKOK: -- Pheu Thai MP Weng Tojirakarn on Friday called for the resignation of seven Constitution Court judges for issuing an injunction for the legislative vote on charter change.

Weng, accompanied by some 40 red shirts, lodged his statement at the high court.

"The seven judges had acted in violation of the Constitution and should assume responsibility by resigning," he said.

He said before the seven judges stepped down, they should cancel the court order as an act of remorse.

The seven are high court president Wasan Soypisudh and six judges, Jaran Pukditanakul, Charoon Intachan, Chalermpon Ake-uru, Nurak Marpraneet, Boonsong Kulbupar and Suphot Kaimuk. They are also being targetted by the red shirts for impeachment.

The two remaining judges, Chut Chonlavorn and Udomsak Nitimontree, are the dissenting voices opposing the judicial intervention.

Jaturporn should be in Jail for inciting violence... he is just a thug who will be probably shot and taken out... I thing Thailand is in for bad times aslong as this idiot is alive

Not going to happen, he would just become a martyr for his ardent followers and some one equally as unpleasant would take his place. (Ok, it's arguable as to if there is anyone as equally unpleasant)

I'd risk it.

More than worth it, just to watch the police flailing around.

There couldn't be a more blatant case of a pot calling the kettle black then Jatuporn's accusing the court of wanting to destroy democracy.

And oh the irony in his statement that "We don't need to have elections anymore. Anyone who wants to become prime minister can apply to the Constitution Court . . ." . . . in the event that Thaksin is incommunicado.

But I suspect Thaksin may be more than a little reluctant to fund another 'million redshirts' stunt, leaving Jatuporn to either dig into his own funds, or risk his rhetoric backfiring.

I'm sure there is just a hint of double standards in Weng's posturing.

I remember the 'Good Old Days', when the Reds & their absent-leader claimed to be fighting for justice, yet now they're in-power they seem to regard threatening judges and their families as perfectly-OK ?

Funny way to support justice, IMO ! wink.png

Wonder when the PM will start supporting the legal-system, such as it is, and condemn the Red-Shirts' actions.

To be sure that she wouldn't be sued for defamation, she would have to do that from parliament. As she appears to be allergic to parliament, I don't think it will happen soon.

He did more than just provide the numbers. The Red Shirt Leader member of government was actively encouraging his Red Shirts to call the judges, and their family members, with hate speech.

Incitement to violence would be another viable chargeable criminal act.

OTOH, his government can arbitrarily just change the ending date on the amnesty for all to yesterday.

Red shirts end rallying at Parliament

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The red shirts on Friday's afternoon voluntarily dispersed from their rally site at Parliament, coinciding with the start of a consultation session among MPs and senators on how to respond to the court order for delaying the vote on charter change.

The rally started on Thursday to launch an impeachment drive against seven judges of the Constitution Court.

Organisers said the rally will be held again on June 24 in order to further solicit the signatures the people-sponsored impeachment motion. The drive has targetted for a million signatures.

The oafish Red Shirt Leaders have short memories. :D

Let them get a million signatures. Let them get three and half million signatures, like they did with the pardon petition.

The more the signatures, the longer it takes to verify each and every one of them. All that is required is the 20,000 that the morons already have. Nothing is gained by some grandiosely higher number, but it does give a legitimate reason for the verification to take forever and a day.

They're still verifying the signatures on that earlier petititon.

In the mean time the rural poor, who were hoping to be represented by their MPs are abandoned by them while they line up for Thaksins money. What a cancer this man is on Thailand, radiation is too good for him.

House will forego 3rd reading of reconciliation bill

BANGKOK, 8 June 2012 (NNT)-House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont insisted that today’s joint sitting of the House of Representatives and the Senate will not proceed with the third reading of the reconciliation bill.

The House Speaker, also Parliament President, said while the third reading on the much debated bill will not continue, MPs will be given the opportunity to debate on the Constitution Court’s order, which instructs Parliament to suspend the third reading of the reconciliation bill.

Somsak said he would need a few days to consider the next step he would take as to the court’s instruction, adding that he would look at the overall situation before making the decision. He claimed that no matter which way he chose, his decision would end up upsetting one group of people or another anyway.

However, he said he would listen to all sides of politics to produce the best possible outcome that would be beneficial to the public.

They decided to change the target. Now they got the red shirts on the CC's judges and if they win, Thaksin can put his men in and then everything's gone.

It's kind of ironic that they've said, "The red shirts will stop the impeachment drive against the judges if the court order on legislative voting is dropped,". If THEY think that it's WRONG then there should be no conditions but here it basically translates to "do what WE WANT and we'll let you off the hook".

Now that Jatuporn is not in his former position, and I find that convenient, he'll be more vocal and active in trying to raise hell and violence with even less consequences. This man needs taught a lesson.

Jatuporn thought he was a big fish because he didn't realise how small the pond was. Now he has a hook deep down his big-mouthed throat, and a very patient angler is slowly reeling him in. He thrashes about trying everything he can think of, because he knows that in the not-so-distant future, he will be hauled before a court which has ample evidence to convict him of a capital crime.

It's too late to rely on Tarit to lose the evidence, the case has already been lodged. And there are bigger fish lurking in the murky depths that know if this one is landed, the whole fetid swamp might be drained and they will all end up on an icy slab.

are you talking about him being convicted for terrorism?

not gonna happen, i mean you must know that don't you.

*well not when thaksin gets his cronies in the judiciary, or not as long as ptp are in power, or not while there's red democracy etc etc*

The red shirts interviewed admitted they didn't know if the court's action was legitimate or not.

'We won't stop until we are told to stop'.

Ignorance is a dangerous thing.

Yes the reds were ignorant & unprepared before the last military putsch. This time they are well organised and can be mobilised quickly to oppose the undemocratic aggressors.

Haven't learn much then.... Its not like its the first coup..... Or the military are getting better at it.... bloodless.....

Yes, absolutely. The charges and evidence were presented to the courts under the democrats and safely away from meddling fingers. Remember as Korkaew said "we don't trust the courts, we don't control them."

When time rolls by, the first two up for the chop will be Arisman and Jatuporn with ample video evidence of them inciting violence. They have 2 choices, pray for a miracle (perhaps red intervention) and probably get a needle, or plead guilty and spill the whole shitcan. Those that planned, organised and paid for that little soiree will do anything to prevent that choice being made, because it exposes all their dirty little secrets.

  • 3 months later...
Red-shirt co-leader Jatuporn Promphan called yesterday for one million red shirts to take to the streets to send a signal to the Constitution Court

Red shirts gathered in their thousands yesterday to sign a petition letter seeking the impeachment of the seven Constitution Court judges by the Senate. By midday they had already managed to gather the 20,000 signatures required by law to launch the impeachment process. The petition was handed over to a Deputy House Speaker early yesterday afternoon by the Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship (DAAD), Thida Thavornseth Tojirakarn.

Not sure what Thida did with those signatures, but today, at a Red Shirt rally being held at the Democracy Monument, Thida said the Red Shirts would launch another signature campaign seeking to petition for the impeachment of the seven Constitution Court judges.

Also regarding today's Red Shirt rally, the Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 6 advised drivers to avoid Ratchadamnoen Road because of traffic concerns.
