Has anyone stayed at these short-term rental apartments:

  1. Chiang Mai Riverside Condo
  2. Huay Kaew Residence

*I found some old postings on Huay Kaew Residence that were mostly unflattering but it could be different now.

Thanks in advance.

I went to look at Huay Kaew Residence a short while ago and wasn't impressed. Very much at the cheap end of the market although if that is what you are looking for then give it a try (great coffee shop on the ground floor).

Riverside is a little bit away from down town Chiang Mai so you will either need your own transport or spend on a tuk tuk every trip out.

Short term, eg Monthly @ 10k fully furnished too much? Our new condo has 1 bedders available with kitchen and lounge, wifi and cable TV. Walk to Suthep Rd, Nimmen, KSK etc. I have no financial interest.

PM if interested.

Stayed for a month at Riverside and was pleased with the condo on their website; www.chiangmairiversidecondo.com.

It was a 46 sqm studio at 9.500 Baht a month with river view. Electricity was 5 and water 15 if I remember well.

Yes samsipet, may be better have a (motor)bike. Going around from every given point in CM you will need own or public transport.

Will stay at Riverside condo again early october for 2 months.

if you are thinking of riverside have a look at golden residence just along from riverside . 1 bedroom , living room , 2 tv,s . desktop computer , free internet , 8,000 p /month

good value and nice

True but there is very little within easy walking distance of Riverside unlike Huay Kaew Residence that has many places within a short stroll.

Sorry samsipet,

have to disagree;

stayed at Riverside Condo for one month and had everything I needed within walking distance. 2 x 7 /11's and 1 mini Tesco. Hundreds of restaurants, food and fruit stalls. 2 big local markets. All kind of shops, pharmacy, banks, post office, hospital.. you name it within 200 yards only! Even HiSo with Holiday Inn (huge and good brunch) next door and Le Coq D'or (one of the finest cuisines in Asia) at 3-400 yards.

That was last year so I hope it is still there at my return. On Google earth I see no changes.

Someone living at Riverside Condo to confirm?

How big is it?

And how far from the Holiday Inn. As that seems the only sure place to get a ride from.

You forgot that it is only 100 meters to a good hospital also. Isn't that close to 89 Plaza.

Yes the Holiday Inn and Riverside Condo's are still there.cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

There you go, eating and typing at the same time, again!

for me personally transport is not a problem as i have my own but as you say there are tuk tuks usually at holiday inn but is a 100m walk away and depending on the time of day usually tuk tuks passing by regular

but if transport is a big issue then maybe somewhere nearer the city would be better for you .

Hi,

I stayed at Golden Residence before but prefer Riverside Condo over them. GR rooms are much smaller in size than RC and devided in 2 (living + bedroom). They also request a key deposit of 1.000 and the electricity is almost 50 % higher than Riverside Condo. At the end RC has very nice views, location is much better and the studio's are way better for the same monthly rate. As I said; I look forward to return to Riverside Condo in a few weeks.

everyone has different preferences when i was looking for a place i wanted a seperate bedroom dont like having just 1 room and having to watch tv or whatever lying on bed all the time . not many places in cm at the same price as gr with 1 bedroom thats all

By accident I was just googling and found a thread on Huay Kaew Residence that mentioned some other places nearby (the Dome and Chiang Mai Residence) and across town (Smith Residence).

Smiths residence is good - stayed there for a few months and it is walking distance to 2 x 7 /11's and 1 mini Tesco. Hundreds of restaurants, food and fruit stalls. 2 big local markets. All kind of shops, pharmacy, banks, post office, hospital.. you name it within 200 yards only!

But far far away from HiSo with Holiday Inn (huge and good brunch) and Le Coq D'or at least 15 minutes in a tuk tuk.

Do take a look at Smith's which is alo an easy stroll to down town Chiang Mai.

Thanks again for the comments.

I might just stay for 2 or 3 months which would allow me to sample some of the locations recommended above.

When I looked up the Smith Residence my only concern was "noise."

Some posters described thin apartment walls and street noise.

I don't even consider places like the Smith Place because when I get off the elevator I don't want to walk up half a flight of steps or down half a flight of stairs to get to my room.

It is how ever in a good location if you need transportation.

yes I lived there for 9 months and I owned a couple of rooms there (now sold) sorry but it's really a bad choice (in my view). parking isn't great, way outside of town, no clubs/bars to speak of (if you don't include Thai run down small beer shops), no supermarkets near-by (if you don't include small 7/11s with limited stock).

It depends what you want - there are only two condos in the center of town within walking distance (cityview and night bazaar) you could try those? but if i were staying only a month I'd go for Verrachi Court OR Mandala House - not condos but nice and clean hotels within walking distance of EVERYTHING:

night market

walking street

bars

restaurants

massage parlors

shops

temples

you name it - it's got it

SamSipEt, you said almost the exact same thing that "wantbuyacondo" said about CMR. Now I know why one of the posters above said it's the same no matter where you stay!

Cut and paste is wonderful biggrin.png

Yes most places have similar basic facilities within walking distance. As you say it is all down to what you want. If you want to be away from the main tourist areas with all the farang bars etc then Riverside is a good choice otherwise Smith's or perhaps the Royal Lanna Hotel which does long stay and has another thread running at the moment. If you like something more trendy then head to the other side of town to the Nimmanhemin area.

Good luck and I hope you find what suits you thumbsup.gif

Yes, they sound the same in black and white, but anyone in Chiang Mai knows there is a big difference. Smith is about 150m to the old city(Chiang Mai proper) and CMR is a 10min drive to the 'city'

Yes they can be made to sound the same but I have looked into both resedinces and they deffinatly are not the same. The Smith residence has a postage stamp for a pool as compared to the Riverside pool Their is a wide selection of choices for room layout at the riverside.

The Smith is less than 5 minute walk to the old city. Mostly for tourists. The Riverside is 5 minute walk to more traditional Thai markets.

The big thing to consider also is transportation. Easy to get at the Smith residence. Riverside must walk 200 feet to the holiday inn and get a tuck tuck unless there is the odd songtell coming by. Also at The Holiday inn there is a free ride to the airport shopping center every hour in the afternoons starting at 12:20 PM then hourly starting at 12:50 P M until 7:50 P M.. Also free return they leave the mall at the top of the hour.

There is one in the morning at 11:20 A M

The whole thing comes down to what do you want and what are you w3illing to pay.

Samsipet,

You try to make me sound a bit ridiculous by copying and paste around about what I have said.

To you and to all others; on the contrary, NOT all condos are the same for short/longer stays.

How far walking to a good choice of restaurants, a 7/11, a bank, a pharmacy from Hillside 4? From Lilly Valley? From Mountainfront? From Rimping Condo? From Flora (behind Riverview), From Embassy Condo? There is NOTHING around at all! If you not have your own transport you lost. Even a tuktuk, songtaew will not stop at the Embassy.
