I am on a non immigrant B visa (multiple entry) and I am getting my work permit tomorrow but I am already resigned for the end of the month. I know that I need to give the work permit back the day I finish my work. I don’t know what I am going to do tomorrow. Do I need to tell them about my resignation? And does somebody know whats going to happen to my Visa? I want to stay in Thailand and I am already looking for another job but is this possible with my current Visa? I am afraid that I have to leave the country and apply for a tourist visa. Would be great to get some advice :-)

Do you have multiple entry non b visa or are you on an extension of stay?

If visa no problem with immigration and staying in the country. Work permit will be cancelled.

If an extension of stay you must leave the country as soon as job ends after notifying immigration or get a 7 day extension (1900 baht).

Has your visa been converted to an extension of stay, if yes then the extension of stay will be cancelled (as this is based on employment) however if your orginal visa is still valid (not run past it's used by date) then I believe you will still hold this visa after the dust has settled and will be ok.

Yu indicate that you have a multiple non-B visa, that would not become invalid. So you can stay in Thailand. Only an extension of stay based on employement would need to be cancelled.

If you work for the company till the end of this month, you will need the work permit. But could ask for a 3 month validity (or shorter). This will reduce the cost for the work permit. (If they didn't already made the WP for 1 year)

I am not on an extension of stay, I thought I can only get it if I already have a WP?

I am on a non immi b multiple entry visa and got already one 'extension' after doing a boarder run, so my visa is still valid.

What am I going to do tomorrow? Just go into the labour dep and sign my WP without telling them anything? And what is going to happen when i give it back at the end of the month?

Thanks a lot for helping me :)

As said, try to get 1 for only 3 months. It saves some money, as the price is calculated per 3 month validity.

The last day of your employment you should get a letter from your employer stating the last day of your employement. You visit the labour office with that letter and have the WP cancelled and that is it.

You are still good with multiple entry visa. You do not need to contact immigration just do another border run getting a new entry and permit to stay date (it is not an extension) when you current permit to stay runs out.

Why even bother picking up the work permit if you have already resigned.

Your passport has to be handed in at the same time as your WP,the non B visa is then cancelled on your passport and it varies from 1 up to 7 days that you have to depart the country.

Your visa is not canceled and your passport is not turned in to anyone - it belongs to your government and you hold it. If he were on an extension of stay he would have to visit immigration to cancel that extension of stay and immediately leave (unless service by one stop who have 7 days grace) or apply for an extension of stay.

I guess I am not on an extension because there is nothing written in my passport and I am getting the wp tomorrow. I thought you can only apply for an extension once you get your wp? the only problem could be that my company already applied for an extension. I have no idea whats happening in that case.

If you don't mind me adding that usually it is someone in the company who doesn't know the rules that tells you you must cancell the visa.

Happened to my mate, he dutifully went with WP and company rep at the end of the job, on Multi O married status, and before he could stop it the girl in the labour office stamped cancelled on his visa. He did eventually get it sorted but it did trake a bit of doing.

Rayong area by the way.
