sunny747
Hello all, i have noticed after driving for a while, my front wheel rim getting really hot. I suppose this is something to do with brake calipers. i have taken it to a quick garage shop, they put some grease, cleaned the calipers but i'm still facing the same problem. my car running smooth. wheels are rotating without any friction. Brake holding tight with no problem. Just that it is getting blazing hot after i drive for 20 minutes. as a result, i'm losing wheel pressure very quickly like within 3 days. shall i take my care to service shop like B-quick? please advice... thanks. ravip
Just before the problem started, did you do any modifications to your wheels? Could be a ventilation problem. A friend of mine had a similar problem quite sometime back due to a ventilation problem after he modified something - Sorry, I just cant remember the exact modification he did. Pull both front tires off and look at the brake pads on both sides. Uneven wear is the first indication of a sticking caliper, as is a heat-blued rotor. Sticking calipers do not always cause pulling, so this is not a reliable determining factor. Can you turn the wheels freely when jacked up? - when heated? when cold? Check the wheel bearings for play. Edited June 22, 2012 by ravip

ravip
I just remembered one more thing... Some vehicles disc brakes may have 'shims'. Does your vehicle have them? Are they fitted properly? Are they damaged?

transam
Have you changed the tyre size? Or wheels ? Does the car pull to the or right when you brake ?
pipo1000
My guess is most certainly wheel bearing, or if it is a front wheel drive the drive shaft.
culicine
How hot is hot? Wheels normally get very hot, especially in the front, from conduction of heat from the brakes. The tire going down could be a separate issue. Take it to a tire shop and get the tire checked. They can seal it to stop it going down. A bearing being bad enough to generate lots of heat would be noisy.
Kwasaki
Is it both front rims you just say rim. ??? Had you brakes sorted you say the wheels run smooth. Tyres running hot will usually increase in pressure. 1. OK as said check wheel bearings. 2. Check wheel alignment. 3. Check tyres for leakage. 4. Have you had a front spoiler fitted recently. 5. Do you drive with you foot hovering the brake pedal. Edited June 23, 2012 by Kwasaki
