Mt. Biking Up North

Featured Replies

Any suggestions for a nice place to go for a couple of days of riding. Driving (in truck w/bike) out from Chiang Mai to somewhere not too far (Chiang Rai, Chiang Dao etc.) where I can stay and use as a base for some good single track riding. Scenic and real off road (all mountain or all terrrain as they call it) is most important and some evening entertainment and points of interest secondary but would be nice too.

Yes, head to Doi Mae Salong from Chiang Dao, 159km.

One you flit past Mae Ai, you begin climbing. Spend the night in Doi Mae Salong. Horng pak (gueshaus) is about 200-500b.

Great local foods and soups. You can rest or do further loops. Tea plantations in all directions.

If you head east towards Mae Chang, make a sure you have fresh brake pads.

I pedaled up to Doi mae Salang from Mae Chang and it was a tought nut to crack.

Very steep.

You'll have fun, report back when you can!
