I am getting over to BKK from Heathrow for my mates wedding in August 06 - but the flight prices are crazy at the moment.

I am being quoted £675 for direct return flights with EVA & Thai !!! :o

i am a regular traveller to BKK and normally pay no more the £450 for return direct flights

Can anyone confirm if this is normal for August (i know it is kids holidays etc)

thanks

Yeah Browny, august is about that much even though it's low season in Thailand.

Try and go middle july, just before the kids break up.

It also wouldn't hurt to go for one of the (quoting another member) "A Salaam Aleykum" airlines...Gulf Air is particularly cheap.

I don't know where you are searching, but www.airline-network.co.uk has flights starting at £447 departing 24/8 with etihad and direct flights with eva at £551.

cheers

thanks bfg - just tried them. Costs £707 on EVA.

trouble is i have to leave LHR on 15th August and leave BKK on 29th August - work commitments !

Airline-network say the airlines haven't released their "special" fares yet.

Dilema - do i wait for the prices to drop ? or book a mult-stopping middle east nightmare trip ?

it always seems better to wait, try the ######s and west-east travel in a few weeks to see what they have. Just used etihad, horrible old leased plane to abu thingy and same films on second leg. OK if you don't like drinking and disorganised service. Food and check in good though, have a look on their site to see what their prices are.

Ian,

Too early to get the special fares & promos but keep on checking on: www.cheapflights.co.uk

They are a portal with links to the best deals to your destination of your choice.

Hoewever, as some others have said, be prepared to pay the school holidays premium.

Also check www.traveljungle.com.

They are showing a fare with Gulf Air at £453 inc for your dates through lastminute.

Browny, we're going during the Easter Holidays, which is usually expensive, but we got an ok fare on Etihad through ebookers.com.

I think you should wait a while before booking, you might get a better deal. - Although, as bfg posted earlier, £453 is good for august.

thanks for your replies everyone - think i will wait for the Thai & EVA special fares - although don't want to wait for too long in case they don't happen !

I have checked Gulf - not bad price for August so contemplating that one as well

cheers all

Yep - looks like Gulf is your best bet for booking now - Expedia show £457 for Gulf on your dates. If you can be a bit flexible on your dates, check out the Travelocity site (allows you to search for cheapest fares within a given period - i.e. August).

Personally, I'd wait a while...........

Just checked what I paid last august £498 inc with EVA flying 25th aug back 6thsept and booked the flights in May.

thanks cleverD - exactly what i needed to know !

i will wait for the EVA/Thai deals to emerge over the next few months. I have been looking at Gulf but really can't be bothered with multi-stops in the Middle East on the return journey especially as i will have to go to work directly from LHR when i land in the morning. Direct flights only for me - a little bit of luxury i am prepared to pay for (but not £700 !!)
