After a campaign of one-upmanship and off-field tit-for-tat from coaches Mal Meninga and Ricky Stuart, the two old rivals and close friends outside of the Origin bearpit, will sit back in what is sure to be an emotional occasion at Suncorp Stadium.

Frustratingly, I've taken on a clashing commitment, and so will not be able to watch the game, so can you cover the commentary for us?

Should be a cracking game, as well.

SC ... thanks for the invitation.

Normally I would relish the invitation to wax lyrical however .. this is State of Origin.

You might not know HOW REALLY BIG THIS IS (not yelling, CAPS used for dramatic effect only).

This is a night for taking the first hit-up, being in the centre of the first brawl, booing the ref, screaming support for the TRIBE you love ... it's a game of passion tonight ... not something to be intellectualised ... well not by me anyway.

Tonight this State collectively sing with one voice ... QUEENSLANDER !

Our lads will need strong knees tonight.

Now I am wearing MY TEAMS Jersey and the opposing teams colours are banned from being donned (accidentally or not).

You've got an hour and a half to sort out a relevant avatar...

I was lucky to get home in time to see the last fifteen minutes of the edited highlights of the Scotland - Fiji game from the 1999 World Cup (not to be confused with the Scotland Fiji game from the 2008 World Cup - Scotland's first ever (and only to date) League World Cup win; in 2013, our target will be to get through to the quarter-finals, where I think we will get thumped by New Zealand, I think, if all goes according to plan... We have a particualrly challenging tie against the USA at Salford Stadium, Barton-on-Irwell, which I would quite like to find a way to, if I could. Though I am hoping TV coverage will be much better than 2008, when I had to watch the game on the BBC Latest Scores site, in the Penalty Spot on Sukhumvit Road... Anyway, what I was getting round to saying was I'll not be rushing home for the game tonight, unfortunately. But I get a reply at 2030 on Friday evening

^^ I have a good mind to report you SC ... attempting to hijack an important thread like this.

The nerve of ya scouse blethering northerner.

To make matters worse ... Scotlands colour is blue ... the colour of the opposition ... dry.png

Be off with you now laddie and let the real men sort this out.

There is an advantage in playing at home.

What we need is our Forwards to lift ... they don't have to dominate ... just hold their own and set the platform for the halves.

Ingles move to the fullback position is the most discussed change to the QLD side.

He was closely marked in the first two games and moving to fullback hopefully give him more freedom and space.

He's a big bloke ... circa 110 kgs.

Last year the decider was at Lang Park (Suncorp Stadium)

Just to give you a gauge of the passion ... the Stadium's capacity is 52,500 and the Suncorp Stadium game sells in under 30 mins.

The first SOO I watched was the decider in 2006 - the first in the current run, I believe, in a very quiet pub in Bali, and a cracking game it was too, full of drama and controversy up to the final whistle.

Last year I ran home from work as fast as my little stumpies would carry me to catch the game. THat was the first of three big games at Suncorp - the final game of the Tri-Nations, and the final of the Superrugby - all won by the home side, if my memory serves me well.

Digressing for a moment, though still on the topic of Suncorp Stadium, I watched the Union World Cup England - Wales game in 2003 in a pub just along from the stadium, unaware that my cousin and her husband had a spare ticket, and also uncertain whether it had been them that I had seen across the park earlier in the afternoon, and indeed, unaware that they were in Brisbane at the time.

The game had everything and importantly ... a QLD victory.

Another year, another Queensland State of Origin victory. While some New South Welshmen will find solace in the fact that the Blues appear to be inching closer to an elusive series win, the harsh reality is that the 2012 State of Origin series concluded with an all-too-familiar result.

The Queensland Maroons won their seventh consecutive series, and did it the hard way, winning by a single point in game three, courtesy of a late Cooper Cronk field goal.

Some thoughts here

Was last year's decider at the Suncorp Stadium as well? Does the holding side get home advantage for the third leg?

SC

Traditionally the series is played only in nsw and qld with the sides taking turns at having two home games on alternate years. Now though they have moved one game to Melbourne , in theory a neutral venue.

What a game that was, as thrilling and nail biting as any game gets.

Luckily the correct result was had.

It honestly good have gone either way.

I feel things could turn quickly however next season, as our ageing stalwarts head to pasture.

We have seen last season The departure of the great Darren Lockyer, who will undoubtedly be crowned the next rugby league immortal.

Petero going, and Slater, Thurston, Hodges, Tate, all well and truly in the twilight of their career.

I believe we are seeing the end of an era, I also believe we will never see 10 series in a row as has been touted.

I was at the Inaugural match at Lang park back in 1980, as then 14 year old.

For me, State of Origin is the pinnacle of Australian sport.

Because of the emotion, and the contest that always ensues.

Classic game for the decider.

Gallen and bird are big sooks, they should've put a jersey on that trainer, he spent more time on the field than some of the players
